Tune Advice for '05 GT needed

I have a 2005 GT manual. It is stock except for Pypes muffler delete axle backs and a K & N CAI. I'm not interested in racing or real hard driving so don't need much extra HP but would like to improve the throttle response. It seems to want to be at about 3000 rpm before I really feel the engine's power. Would like that to come much earlier.
I've read much about tunes and, the more I read, the more I realize what I don't know. So my question is: what would be the easiest way to improve the throttle response with a bit of extra HP?
There is a local shop in the KC area (LSXKILR) that has good reviews. The advertise the following tuning rates: Break-in/Base Tune - $150, NA Street Tune - $300, NA Dyno Tune - $350. They use SCT software.
I would not want to try this on my own so they would be the option I would go with.
Is a base tune all I need or is that the first step to the street tune? Do I need to have the car dyno'd? Obviously I don't know anything about this.
Any education info. and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

+1 on the call the Brennspeed. I have a 05 with cold air, full exhaust and upgraded ignition. Super easy to do and all you have to do is plug it in and a couple minutes later your done. First time you drive it after you load the new tune you will be amazed at the difference in the performance. I was shocked.

OK, after a lot of indecision, I finally decided to purchase a new Bama x4/sf4 tuner. Found a 5% discount coupon so my cost totaled $379.99 at American Muscle. After looking at what used tuners were selling for on Ebay & Craigslist there wasn't much difference in cost considering the $149.00 charge to have new tunes written for an older tuner. Then there was the concern of is the old tuner really unlocked and how many tunes are left. Also the additional features on the new tuner over the old. I also talked to LSXkilr Custom Calibrations which is a certified tuner in the KC area. They have a great reputation locally but having to buy a used or new tuner plus the cost of having them tune the car just didn't seem worth the extra expense. Plus the advice given here seems to support my decision. So I thank you again for your input. I will let you know how it runs once it is loaded. Hope the snow gets off the streets soon!

Good move buying a tuner from AM. You'll see how easy it is to use once you get it. If you can put gas in your car, then you can load a tune into your car too.
There's no need for a dyno tune with the little bit of work you have done to your car at this point.

Thanks JZ. I am amazed a used SCT3 tuner just sold on Ebay for $238.50! With the additional $150 for new tunes that will cost the buyer a total of $388.50!! That's more than I paid for the new one. Am I missing something here?

I guess it would depend on how long your going to keep your car or if you know someone that can write tunes etc. I agree that 238.50 is I bit steep for used and you don't need to spend 150 on tunes if you don't want to.
