Default 2008 shelby gt500 engine light on

i have a 2008 gt500 with 42k miles and all of the sudden my check engine light turned on after not using the car for 4 days. the only thing i have ever done to the car is a steed cai and a tune but that was 6 months ago. the check engine light just turned on today. how do i start to diagnose this problem?

Pull the DTC codes with your tuner.

Colder temps can cause this with aftermarket tunes. Even just 20-30 deg swing can do it if tune is dialed in to close. Dirty MAF or o2 sensor can also do it.

Put the OEM intake on, revert tune back to stock, and see if DTC returns.

If it doesn't return then work with who ever provided the tune for an update. If it does come back then we'll cross that bridge then

Reverting to stock is normally first step when possible.

Use the tuner to clear the DTC if you tried cleaning MAF, but I don't think just blowing it with compressed air will do it. Speak with AM they are good guys.

Hey BlackShelby,

Sorry to hear about the trouble! Luckily, it's not anything you need to lose sleep over .

P0171 Basically means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 has detected a lean condition.

Luckily, since you are only seeing this on bank 1, and not also on bank 2, it is not as big of a problem as it can be!

I noticed you said you were tuned through AM

I'm going to assume you are tuned by the Bama Performance team.

The guys at BAMA will definitely be able to walk you through diagnosing this issue and get you all fixed up.

I would be more then happy to have one of the Bama specialists reach out to you ASAP!

If you would like, shoot me over your order # and contact info in a PM and I will make sure that happens.

In the meantime, I would check your plugs, maf, etc and make sure everything is clean (no fouling) and once you do that, I would recommend clearing the code using your handheld.

If the problem persists, the code will reappear, if the problem goes away, it will not!

I hope this clears up some confusion for you!

If you have any questions for me I'm right here and I will be on the lookout for your PM.

Yes, you definitely need to clear the code and drive the car to see if the code comes back. If it does, reach out to AM for their input.
