Rear axle leak

Rear axle leak
Crawled under my car this evening to take a look. Wasn't too happy to find that im leaking differential oil from the little vent on top of the Rear axle. The entire axle on the driverside to include the housing, drive shaft and the bottom piece that holds the rear shock is covered with oil. I have looked online and there was a TSB and a kit with a new fitting and hose for the 2010-2012. I have a 2014 with 13000 miles on it and wondering if there is a TSB or if anyone else had this issue and what the dealer did to resolve the issue. I have an appointment tomorrow, and I dont want to have the dealer top it off and send me on my way saying its fine, and find myself back there a month later. Thanks for any input.

Very common issue, especially if you do an "spirited" driving. There is a TSB for it and they have to do some testing on your car - sometimes they add the "turkey baster" or a long hose to raise the vent up. Depends upon the results of the testing. On my 2013 they said the test (can't remember what they had to do) came out saying not to add the parts that raise the vent (i.e. the bulb or the hose extension).
If they don't do it, you can easily do it yourself. There are write ups on the forum.

I ended up with a far worse issue, but do not let them put a breather tube in there like they do with some of the 09+ trucks. it will make a HUGE mess. This is usually caused by an issue with heat. causing the "rattle cap" to spit fluid. possibly it was over filled from the factory. def going to need them to get under there and figure out the cause because over time that rear dif will be an expensive replacement. (btw, 60k mile powertrain warranty on it, above the 30k bumper to bumper warranty.)

Had this issue after a trip up the CA coast. Took it in and they performed a TSB which also added a piece of black rubber hose to the breather. Haven't jacked up the car to see where it goes yet.

I've heard that the factory fixes don't really solve the problem or do not solve it for very long. I just bit the bullet and added a JLT axle expansion tank, degreased everything and topped off the fluid level in the axle. That was 6+ months ago and everything is remaining nice and dry now.

Took my car in today. There is a TSB 14-0046 (March 6th 2014)associated with this repair for the 2014's. It seems odd the manufacturer didnt just do it at the factory since build date on my car was April of 14. unfortunately i was the first in my area that reported this, so it had to be ordered. Dealer says part will be here Tuesday and says will take about an hour. it states on the bulletin they will need to replace the oil in the axle with synthetic 75w-140 (not sure whats in there from factory), add friction modifier additive, and a vent kit. Hope this will reduce or possibly eliminate the issue. Thanks for the replies.
