Sounds like a scam. I would never go there again.

I never go to a dealer for any service unless it's under warranty. I will do it myself or take it to an independent mechanic that relies on word of mouth and his reputation. Even if it weren't a scam and your tie rods were bad, it doesn't cost $700 to replace them. Parts should be under $100, one hour labor and an alignment. $300 or so seems about right to me.

But anyway, I finally got my car fixed with a quality mechanic here in GA, and there was some bad wiring in the alternator causing the parasitic drain. It ended up being about $200. Not too bad, and the mechanics I worked with were cool. But I asked these guys to check out my tire rods, because a certain Ford Service Center (here in GA, I don't want to specify until I hear from you guys) told me that my tire rods (inner and outer) were bad and desperately needed to be replaced, to the tune of $700.

Hi guys,

I’m concerned with your experience and would like to get this documented for you. Please PM mew it your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number for you.

In my experience most dealer service departments are crooks and belong behind bars.

And the big brands have the nerve to fight Tesla.....

It's not the brands, it's the dealer (franchise) lobbyists.

Not all dealer service centers are like that. I've been lucky enough to find one that is really good and honest.

I work for a Honda dealer and I can say that yes the dealer makes the most money off service. Yes there are crooked dealerships, writers, and techs. We have a tech here who went through the trash to find dirty air filters to sell to a customer who just had them changed at their last visit (5k miles). Somehow this guy still works here but our managers suck. I do not do that to customers because it comes back to bite you, seen it numerous times. I prefer to fix whats wrong with a customer's car and recommend services they need (leaks, worn parts) or stuff that will soon be at service intervals (timing belts usually). Thanks to some guys the dealers get a bad rap and it hurts the rest of us. We've lost many customers because of this.
