Default Automatic Shifter Help

New to the forum , have owned several mustangs over the years and just recently bought my son a 2006 v6 mustang. The car is in immaculate condition, except for the automatic shifter. (image attached)

The only damage is on the top part of the surface around the shifter. I played around with this and looks like this piece comes off pretty easily. (just remove console and that top piece snaps off).

My question is that I can not find anywhere to buy just that piece....looks like I would have to buy the entire shifter. Does anyone know where i could get this piece?

Another thought.....if anyone has a damaged shifter out there where that piece that snaps on the top is in really good shape would love to see if I could buy just that piece off of you.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum! Your best (and cheapest) bet might be to visit a pick-a-part type place and source your parts that way.

As a last resort, you could always pop off and paint the existing piece. Some light sanding, good masking and a rattle can of matte black should work fine.

Ford doesn't sell parts for those shifters. It's a complete unit. You could look for a used one or the big money TCI unit.

Thanks everyone.... Was hoping someone might have a damaged shifter that they replaced sitting around and could get that piece from it.

Guess I will try painting it...That piece comes completely off , so should be able to pop it off and prep/paint it.

I have a shifter in my shed that's missing the sliding dust shield.
The sliding dust shield broke and jammed and had to be removed.
I'll take a look at it tonight to see if that piece comes off.

That would be great.... This you tube clip shows someone removing the console and taking that piece off. (3 minutes 50 seconds into video...)
