Default Thoughts on a 2012 Boss 302

I was at the local Ford lot getting service done on my wife's Explorer - door latch indicator - and noticed an orange Mustang in the lot. The color did not make any sense for the body style, so I walked up to it and it was a Gurney Orange Boss 302 with 11k miles on it.

I talked to a guy in the lot and its priced around 38k.

I dont think I will pull the trigger as I am looking for something for my wife with an automatic. But this seemed like a decent price.

The thing I like about Boss 302s at least around here is you do not see them. Plenty of Shelby's and well if you want modern with distinction and performance - what better way to go.

Thoughts?

Unless its for the collectibility I think the boss is overrated. Sorry if that angers anyone. You can pick up a lightly modded 13/14 GT for 28k and use the extra 10k for a blower and suspension and have a reliable 550-600whp car that will be much more fun than a boss. Not to mention you can have your pick of auto or stick with the GT. Collectible wise there is no comparison. Boss hands down. Stock for stock the boss is the best mustang built. Once you beef up a gt especially a 13/14 track pack the differences are negated. Yes the boss has forged internals (at least more forged than a gt) but I can't find one case where someone broke connecting rods in a GT. Just my .02.

Sure it wasn't "Competition Orange"? Here is my friend's (he is a member here and will probably chime in) and I am definitely jealous of his car!!!

I call it Gurney Orange personally.

Yea, my thought is a factory Mustang that further stands out from the crowd.

I like all Mustangs, but the Boss 302 is like when I had my 03 Marauder, lots of CVs and GMs, but very few Marauders!!!

Nice looking car and it will probably hold a little more collector value than a GT500 over time.

The Competition Orange color is actually used by several different manufacturers (Lotus, Lamborghini, Ford, etc.) and is an actual specific color. In fact, you can buy 2015 Mustangs in Comp Orange. And damn if I wouldn't mind having one of them!

Considering where I live - when I broached the subject with my wife - I called it Bronco Orange.

You buy a Boss for a different kind of driving fun than what you get from a blower. For some people, the Boss will be more fun than a 600HP GT, for others, less so.

Go for it.
While yes a GT with the money difference in upgrades will be faster, it's not always about that as much as looks and the package.

38K is a little high for a standard Boss. Mid to low 30's would be a good deal.
And, if you're looking for an auto for wife, a GT would be a better choice.
For fun & exclusivity the Boss would be hard to beat.
