Airbag Recall
#41
Thanks for getting back to us. I'm not sure I believe the dealer, and would appreciate it if you would go to www.safercar.gov/Vehicle+Owners. Type in your VIN, read the message that appears, and let us know.

THANK YOU. Turns out he was wrong. This is from the official Ford website when I put my VIN number in.
Recall Date: MAY 27, 2015
Recall Title: DRIVER AIRBAG INFLATOR REPLACEMENT
NHTSA Recall Number: 15V319
Ford Recall Number: 15S21
Recall Description: IN THE SUBJECT VEHICLES, CONTINUED EXPOSURE TO HIGH LEVELS OF ABSOLUTE HUMIDITY MAY CAUSE THE DRIVER AIRBAG INFLATOR HOUSING TO RUPTURE IF THE VEHICLE IS INVOLVED IN A CRASH WHERE THE SUPPLEMENTAL FRONT AIRBAGS ARE DESIGNED TO DEPLOY.
Risk to Safety: IN INFLATOR RUPTURE COULD RESULT IN METAL FRAGMENTS STRIKING AND POTENTIALLY INJURING VEHICLE OCCUPANTS
Remedy Program: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE DRIVER AIRBAG INFLATOR WITH A NEW ONE, FREE OF CHARGE.
Status: 12 - RECALL INCOMPLETE. REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE.
Manufacturer Notes: TO CHECK FOR NON-SAFETY-RELATED PROGRAMS APPLICABLE TO YOUR VEHICLE, SEE HTTP://WWW.FORD.COM/ OR CALL YOUR FORD DEALER.
Called my dealer up again to get this all fixed. Basically he said that right now ford doesn't have the parts in my area (South Texas). BUT! They do have parts in for people with the airbag light on. He said if my airbag light comes on Ford will fix it immediately because I would be in danger of it blowing up in my face. He also confirmed with me as well as the website that this IS a new recall but Ford hasn't sent out letters yet because they are stocking up on airbags first.
So two life threatening airbag recalls this year. Fun stuff.

Thanks for checking. I had my '07 airbag inflator recall done earlier this year, but I'm on the list for the new recall.
My dealer says they are still waiting for the replacements. I was wondering where my letter from Ford was. They were supposed to begin mailing them July 13. You answered that.
There are some of the new inflators around, but, as you said, the dealers only install them in certain instances. I'll bet that one instance would be if the dealer had a car in stock, but couldn't sell it because the recall had not been performed on that car. He can't legally sell it with an open recall. Who do you think would get that inflator--you or the car waiting to be sold?
