the Japanese government will help prop up companies for a long time. Sony should be dead by now, but they go on even though Playstation is the only thing making them significant money.

I went in today for my air bag recall and when the service tech brought my GT back to me after it was completed I had the chance chat with him for a few minutes. Turns out that Ford is replacing the entire drivers side air bag assembly and not just the inflator. When I was in last year for the same recall they only replaced the inflator. Interesting.

Get ready to take it back in for the passenger side next. Yesterday ford recalled 2005-2011 Mustangs now for the passenger side airbag.

They won't this will be their demise. No way they can afford all these replacements and the subsequent image hit.

I don't know, Firestone survived the Explorer debacle. They will probably change the company name.

Unless I can get a replacement this year (I've been waiting over a year for the replacement) I will just take out both airbags and call it a day. I'm slowly turning the car into a dedicated track car so I won't miss them. I'm just glad mine didn't come with the seat mounted airbags, I'm betting those are next.

The Firestone/explorer issue was more on ford than Firestone. So that's not a good comparison.

On a side note, I got my letter saying parts are in for my car, but it doesn't specify what dealership they are in at and I have 4 within 30 miles of me.

I finally managed to get the local dealer to order mine after a year, let's see how long it takes them to actually replace them.

With the long lead times, if I ever get them maybe I could make some money off them. Wait until they replace them and sell them on Ebay.

You also have to consider that was a lot less cars and a pretty large company. It was confined to explorers and not all explorer models even had the Firestone's. With Takata it's millions of cars across multiple brands in multiple countries. Which means there will be fines and retributions required to be paid all across the world. It is way more involved than the Firestone debacle. Unless they are sitting on a mountain of cash that no one knows about they will be gone or at least restructure.
