Default Transmission on backorder?

So I dropped my car off at Galpin Ford, transmission was whining and couldn't go into 4th at high rpms, they dropped it, checked it and decided to replace it with a new one. One problem... They told me its on nationwide back order... Has anyone heard of this?

Oh yeah. My car has been at the Ford dealer since easter! I am also waiting on a new trans. Estimated date of arrival for new trans is July 17. Ford really needs to drop Getrag and get a good supplier **COUGH** TREMEC **COUGH COUGH** If yours just went to the dealer this week then that's not too long of a wait.

My mustang is in the shop with a broken 2nd and 4th gear synchro, it has been in since the 9th. All i have heard is that its backordered until most likely the end of next month. I have a rental from ford and its over 900$ to rent a car for 31 days, ive allready had it nine days and they are estimating another ~45 days? pretty crazy, I wonder what the issue is?

I know that takata recall is probably their priority for now. This delay might be related to the Airbag Recall, but shouldnt be.

the takata recall is being handled by takata, so its not a ford priority, getrag supplies ford with the trans and parts, they are behind, chit rolls downhill

Well the installation of the parts is the big thing, the ford service technicians probably have to prioritize airbags over everything, and they have to learn how to do the installation on many ford models. If the parts for the transmissions are really backordered though, i suppose this theory is moot.

as a ford tech, i can say we have been doing nothing about takata air bags, this recall involves so many manufacturers that it will take years to complete (release from takata), and the install, when parts are finally available, will be no different than installing a takata airbag, the changes will all have to do with the explosive propellant. the backordered trans parts are on backorder because getrag cant produce them fast enough to build new units and repair the old ones at the same time. at work we jokingly refer to this as "intergalactic backorder"
