2005 4.6 cracked cylinder wall

these are aluminum block motors so yes there should be 8 sleeves. I would call your local machine shop and talk with them. they will have more info and prices. others will chime in as well. good luck.

what happed was step son went to change plugs, broke one the plugs. he bought the tool to get it out and we thought it was all out. fired the motor and shut it down right away. ended up snapping a valve. took head to shop to get valve repaired (did not ask them to check to see if it was cracked or warped) anyway put everything back together, started it up and had white smoke/steam out of both tail pipes. I was thinking that it just needed to burn off. we also had codes for the timing so I kept messing with that. I took it out on the highway for about 15 miles and when I got off the highway it started to get hot. I check the antifreeze and it was real low, still had steam coming out of pipes. so I thought head gasket of cracked head. took head there this morning for them to check. they said they did pressure test and all ok, not warped either. I had him look at my gasket and he said it was fine. unless you or someone can tell me what else to check I would think the cylinder wall is cracked.

I looked at cylinder wall last night and I think I found a crack, ran my finger nail around wall and I think it is a crack that I could feel. its about 2-3 inches long and runs vertical. I am going to pull motor on Saturday and take to machine shop on Monday and have them verify it is a crack and have them sleeve that cylinder. is there any way to pressure test that cylinder with the head off, maybe make a steel plate to cover hole and run bolts through it using the head gasket, drill and tap a hole to hook up a air chuck and see if the pressure stays, has anyone tried this.
