Default Swapping wheels / TPMS transfer

I'm selling my 2010 GT but her tires and rims need to be replaced first.

I found a pair of 2011-2012 GT rims - how do I go about swapping the rims out without causing TPMS issues?

If the new wheels come with the TPMS units, probably all you need is the programmer since 10-14 use the same TPMS...

Otherwise you'll have to move them over to the fresh wheels or buy new tpms units.

That's a bit pricey for the tool! But, on the plus side, it can be used over and over.

Thanks for the info.

Sometimes the sensors automatically just take. lol it worked for someone I sold my stock wheels to. I would give it about 50 miles or so before you spend the money on the reprogram tool

Yeah, but it's still cheaper than taking it to a ford dealer or tire shop. You could just tell the prospective buyer they'll need to get them programmed if they don't want to have to hit the reset button every time they start your car, but ... chances are they'll want a few hundred off the price of the car. Why change the tires and wheels, are the originals that bad? I assume you are changing them to get top dollar, but if the tpms isn't working it'll be a wash anyway. Best bet is to check with other local mustang guys, chances are someone already has the tool.

If the new wheels have TPMS units, just put them on and you're likely done. I have never needed a programmer with my 2010 or 2014, and right now I've got wheels I had on my 2010 on my 2014 and I've never done a thing with TPMS programming. They just self-learn. And yes, they are working; I had a nail recently and the light came on to tell me about it.

I sw the guy at Discount Tire here in Houston and he said if I bought the tires from him he would swap over to new rims and set them up for 5 bux a wheel.
I know u are in Austin so same may apply!

Yeah discount is pretty good about this stuff.

I bought new tires and while they were replacing them, I asked if they could put in Stem style TPMS since mine originally had the band style. I supplied the correct parts when I got the tires installed, they swapped them on and programmed them at no extra charge.
