Inner Tie Rod Replacement Question

Inner Tie Rod Replacement Question
1. Do I need a special tool to get the clamps off the boot? If so what is it called and are the clamps reusable?
2. Do I really need the tie rod tool to get the roundnut loose or can I just use a wrench?
I have a wretched clunk/clank over sewer lids, pavement cracks and a pop at the steering rack when turning the wheel left to right quickly. Checked the wheel and to much play when wiggling left to right and I can get it to pop again. Have new endlinks so I know its not them again..

Checking tie rods is pretty much a "two sets of eyes" thing to be certain where the problem lies. One person to shake the wheel, the other to see where the play is at. I would do this before spending time and money on inner tie rod ends. Remember, a wheel bearing can have play at any angle, whereas tie rods, can only be seen with side to side motion. Just sayin to cover all bases before diving in.
It is called an inner tie rod removal wrench. Its need is totally dependent on the space given. I have not done inners on an S197 yet, so cant say for sure it is needed. Reuse of the clamps depend on what the ones on there are made of. And how much you have to Hulk out to get them off.
