Default Transmissoin check vavle

Can our transmissions be flushed with a machine, the reason I ask is I heard about a check valve being in our trans preventing this yet some Ford dealers say they can flush them, some say they just do a pan drop. The reason I ask is I have seen a few deals on flush machines and would like to purchase one

yes they can be flushed with a machine, but, the process takes a bit longer than on older cars, this is due to a thermostatic valve in the cooler line. the trans has to be fully warmed up in order for fluid to flow to the cooler, and since most flush machines hook to the cooler lines, this adds time to the service.

Yup, and that same thermostatic valve is modified in performance valve bodies or valve body kits so if it fails it fails in the open position or has a built-in bypass if it gets stuck.

The OEM ford design is setup up so that if the valve fails, it typically fails in the closed position so you toast your transmission due to fluid starvation.

How often do you plan on flushing your trans? Is it really cheaper to buy the machine over having someone else flush the trans two maybe three times in the life of the car?

I flush my trans every 60k, which is about every two years for me also I have two other cars so I am thinking this would be a better option. I have done this only all my cars I have 1997 grand prix with 350,000 miles and a 2001 chevy venture with 325,000 both still have original trans. So I figure its worth the money I am finding them used for about 175.00 and a new one for $450.
