Has anyone self-installed the compass/dimming mirror?

Has anyone self-installed the compass/dimming mirror?
According to my dealer mechanic, the compass/dimming mirror is a plug-in to the wiring harness that's already up front under the headliner.
Has anyone done this installation themselves and can you verify this or is it more complicated.
The parts counter originally told me the optional remote start was a plug-in installation so I ordered it and when it arrived it contained multiple wiring harnesses, switches and misc. parts plus NO installation or wiring diagram and he couldn't find anything on his system to help me so I told him to keep it.
Hoping the mirror is not the same......can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks in advance!

I added one with compass, temp , uv and auto dim. I got power from the harness at the top, but them had to run the sensor wiring. It was relatively easy and well worth the effort.

Does anyone know if the mounting of the mirrors is universal between makes Chevy to Ford. I have a Tahoe with a compass/autodim mirror that I am going to be getting rid of and I was thinking that I could do the switch with the Mustang. The power is up in the console already.

Some of the install difficulty might depend on whether or not you get the temperature guage on the mirror. I ordered and had the dealer install the mirror with compass, temp, autodimming. and garage door opener. It took them hours to do and they had to take the dash off. Installation was included in the price of the mirror, I guess they weren't taking extra time to drive up the price. I'm sure it's no problem for a lot of people, but it was more than I wanted to tackle.

Does anyone know if trying to run the wiring for this on a convertible would be more difficult (or possible) ?
You obviously don't have the head-liner to run the wires from above the mirror over to the A pillar.
Thanks,
