I parked my Mustang next to an 05-09 model and in my opinion, it made the older model look plain and boring. I don't think the new mustang has a ricer look at all. I'm very happy with my car...well maybe a grabber blue would have been nice...but then I wouldn't have gotten my badass red leather interior. Anyway, my personal opinion is the 2010 takes the older model and makes it look better, more refined, and more (for lack of a better word) beastly. =D Everyone is entitled to their opinion though, Hell, my dad HATES the 05-09. He thinks they are down right fugly. He likes the 2010 alot better. We will see how many people change their mind though when the 5.0 comes out. Haha. I will bet my month's pay though that it won't be put in the GT. I'm willing to bet that IF they come out with a new 5.0 Mustang...its going to be a specialty model like maybe the return of the Mach 1.

What kills me is 90% of the 2010 bashing is from 05-09 owners, very little bashing is from anyone else. Is this "mustang envy"? And to the guys who compare the new 'Stang to cameros and challengers, wow! Mustang created the entire pony car segment, and the camero and challenger are both copies of the Mustang. This is old news from 67 (for the camero) and 70 (for the challenger)! And now is just a replay. The Mustang went retro in 05, Chevy and Dodge saw how smart Ford was and had to copy them again! The "hips" on the new 'Stang aren't a copy of Dodge's challenger or charger, they were origional style on mustangs back in 65 through 70, and even 71-73
had a slight "hip" to it. Which is perfect since they're going for a retro look on all of these cars! IMO, the only thing I didn't like about the 05 when it came out was it didn't have that "hip". When you look at it from the side, the car is really just a wedge with no style except the fastback roof. The convertible really looked bad to me. My 01 was the same way, as were all fox bodies. I'm not saying they were ugly, but to me the hip on the 2010 finally fixed somthing they have been missing for 30 years. I don't like the rear as well as the 09, but it is growing on me. To me, the new body is a natural progression along the line of evolution, just as the origional changed in 67, 69, 71, etc...
In fact, I think it changed less from 09-10 than it did from 98-99 with the new edge. By the way, I remember 94-98 fans hating the new edge just the same when it came out!
All I can say is as soon as the 5.0 comes out, I will be driving one. If there wasn't rumors about the 5.0, I would be driving one already. I think it is the best looking late model ever!
I don't hate the new Mustang because I have an 05, I hate it because I truly find the rear end atrocious. The 5.0 motor will not change my mind about that, I will get more power out of my 4.6 and never miss that motor. Only way I would consider the 5.0 is when it comes in another redesign. I will truly be interested to see if what the sales numbers look like of the 2010 compare to the 2005-2009.

Keep in mind that this is a SUBsection of the 2005-up section, so it's going to be biased one way or the other based on that particular group of people. IOW, the traffic here is going to be mostly 2005-up owners. Plus a few folks who also contribute elsewhere. Who you won't see in here are the die-hard Fox/SN95/New Edge or Classic enthusiasts.
It's not like everybody wants to see massive restyling of the rear end either. A simpler tail light shape and de-emphasis of the lower body cladding would go a long way for most folks.
No envy here, or itch to keep up with the latest and greatest. I buy a given car for what it is, or could be with a little (or a lot of) tinkering on my part. Not for what might be perceived by some as "better".
If/when I need something faster than a NA 4.6 S197 with cold air and a tune, it'll be because adding another 400 cc worth of engine to that chassis isn't going to make it enough faster either.

No, I don't hate the 2010 model, I just don't like the rear end especially the tail lights. It reminds me too much of the 98 Mustang.
The front end is gorgeous! Ford knew how obsessive a lot of Mustang owners are about the GT500 front end so they made it a standard look.
It took me a long time to really want a Mustang again. I applaud the designers of the 2005-2009 for making that happen. Will I be trading my Pony in for the new model? Nope, not as long as they have that tail light design. I can get a 2007 GT500 to quench my thirst for the front end as well as hp.
Ford needs to wake up in the hp dept. Camaro's V6 boast 300 hp! Ford needs to put the talked about Eco-boost in the new V6 Mustang and THEN I MIGHT reconsider and purchase one.
The rear is really not that bad when you first pass the initial "Oh what the hell!". I think none of us expected this rear when they started to look at the promizing pictures of the new 2010.
I don't think the 2010 will sell as good as the 05s not because of the look, but because the 05s were such a welcomed change from what was out there, and made me start to want a Mustang when before I'd not even consider owning one.
The catch is : if I had an 05 I'll probably still be "stuck" in a car payment, or just about done, and would not want to sign up for an another couple of years buying the 2010.
05 fanboys or not, when I put both 10 and 05 side by side, I have the same answer "The 05 looks so boxy and plain, definitly the 10" ... and that's not even talking about the interior, it's all over for the 05 then.
To me, 05s owners are now like the Fox owners, inconditional love for some box of the past ... and there's nothing wrong with that.

Since I mentioned the "hips" in my original reply, I assume you were responding to me. so I will reply to yours as well.
I don't absolutely hate the car. It is a Mustang after all is said and done. Do I dislike some of the stylings?...absolutely. In my opinion they threw these hips on to compete with the stylings of its competitors. The same goes for the front end. The rear is just something that isn't worth talking about because it is so poorly executed.
In regards to the hips though. Yes. Hips on a Mustang are legendary...especially the early classics, buit I believe the new gneration car (2005+) is modeled after the 69-70 models for the most part...although that can also be argued since it encompasses other years as well.
Had they not "modernized" the style so much as they did for 2010, the hips could have had their place...but that would have had to make them much wider and better pronounced as they did in 69-70. The style of them currently is, as I have mentioned before" very Dodge'ish, I believe.
Would I drive a 2010+ model? Sure, I suppose, but I am very glad I have my 2007. I think it this era is the best design ever produced since 1973.

Let's just remember that these are opinions... So here are mine:
I don't think the Ford designers just threw these hips on the mustang. Thats absurd. the styling was in the works. You make it sound as if someone said.. "Holy crap the Dodge has hips" and another engineer said "Crap, throw some hips on the new 2010 as well". I feel... IMO .. that the refresh is complimentary to the whole car from front to back. My only thing I am not 100% on is the rear fascia. I don't mind the tail lights. But for me... IMO ... the car is well thought out, and the interior is top-notch and a BIG step above what is in my '05 GT Premium.
And after having driven the twom competitor cars... The Mustang wins hand down for me as an everyday driver. Second would be the Challenger and last the Camaro. It just looks like a matchbox toy with it's comical looking body lines and gangster like short roofline. but again..that is my opinion...
Again..just my opinion.

get over it all you 05-09 owning cry babies. the 2010 is badass and you don't have the latest model anymore.
Not to mention you're going to have some serious competition with the 2011 v6 once it comes out making almost at much power as the previous GT and less weight (fyi - 275hp 276tq 3.7L from the Lincoln MKS).

The 2010 hips ala 69 are definitly a big plus for me. Again, the 05s look too plain with a straight line from the A pilar to the trunk. I'm confident that the aftermarket vendor will bring good things to the 10.
Remember, a lot of cool looking customized 05s out there, but after all if u customize your car, isn't it because you are not that satistied with the stock look?
