Default Trunk release

I have read that the 2010 does not have a lock cylinder on the trunk lid, but that, unlike the prior S197 models, it has a trunk release button on the dash. Does the button actuate something electrical or mechanical?

If electrical, is there an alternative way you can open the trunk if your car is suffering from electrical meltdown? And I'm not talking about the alternative of folding the rear seatbacks, climbing into the trunk and pulling the emergency release handle.

Thanks for the info.

and if you have a vert, where the seats don't fold down you will be SOL!

The lock is both electrical either way. I'm pretty sure if the car has no power the interior trunk release should not work.

so far as I have heard the only way to unlock the trunk with a key is by using the master key in the keyhole between the cushions on the rear seats on the driver side...
