How are you getting that good of gas mileage? Did you mod anything(CAI)?

As a matter of record, I did throw all concern out the window (pun intended ) regarding this issue when I bought the car.

But out of curiosity, I naturally wanted to know approximately what MPG these things earn compared to what the window sticker stated. And, for the most part, they do fall within the guidelines (16 city, 24 highway).

Most of my driving is city, and last tank ended up being 17 MPG.

The tank before that, with driving weighted about 70% highway, 30% city -- I got about 21 MPG.

I read about how the automakers must make sure to be accurate in reporting their MPG ratings (though every vehicle isn't checked, just random ones, and occasional new models) lest they be penalized in some form or another.

well, mine has a sense of humor...back to the problem, it's gone from an annoyance to dangerous, as the car shut off (including all power- brakes, steering) as if it was out of gas after ignoring the fake empty tank warning. My chick had to ask the gas attendant to help her to push the car to the pump. It only took 11 gallons, yet its a 16 gallon tank, therefore something electronic convinced the car's computer and /or fuel pump to shut down, despite there being 5 gallons in the tank.

The dealership, Stevens112 in Patchogue, NY, has completely turned me from a happy customer to a very angry and frustrated customer. They kept the car all day, telling us that they would overnight the parts (new sensor/ fuel pump). When we called at around 3:00 pm to ask if it was done, they said the part never came in. We asked when they were going to call us to let us know, instead of just letting it sit there; and we've continually received excuses about their inability to track parts ordered from Ford. Very bad taste in my mouth over a problem that's become a dangerous warranty issue, and could/ should result in a TSB. Not to hijack the thread about this experience, but it's my first Ford, I love the car, but the service dept has soured my opinion all too quickly. I'll post info once I get their version of the reason why this has occurred.

I drive 90% city and average 16 MPG I shift at 3k and try to sit at 1500-2000RPM when cruising.

One problem I've had with my 10' is the dash has a blemish in it. Dealership said that the foam had an air pocket and when it got hot it bubbled. They're going to replace my whole dash.

Does anyone have any distortion through the rear window? I'm talking about where the defroster ends towards the bottomof the window. It seems to make vehicles behind me appear taller. Another issue I have is this so called "self dimming mirror". Sometimes it works well, other times I feel as though I just looked directly at the sun. I just want to make sure that when I go to the dealership that I'm not griping about something that is considered normal for these cars.

Interestingly enough even when my car says less than 50 miles on the tank I have only been able to get 12 gallons max in the car. I take it in tomorrow for a new trick my car did...... when downshifting from 4th to 3rd the other day in "sport mode" the car revved to the limiter (dash flashed red, motor WOT) took my foot off the gas, put the car in neutral and it still stayed WOT until I turned it off and coasted to the side of the road. Waited a few minutes and restarted and the issue has not returned but has me very concerned. I am hoping no motor damage after being pegged at WOT bouncing off the rev limiter....

Woah!!! That is scary. Was your accelerator pedal stuck on the floor mat? (jab at the Toyota recall)

I don't believe it had anything to do with the floor mat. It stayed at WOT until I turned the car off and while coasting to the side of the road I never once put my foot back on the gas pedal. Once over to the side of the road I waited a few minutes pushed in the clutch and the car started fine. Never touched the gas pedal until I put the car back in gear and headed back onto the road. Also I don't have the standard floor mats, I have the WeatherTec all weather mats and I checked it for interference when i first put them in and there was plenty of celarance with the pedals...

I found this, Richard4221 posted about his and other suggesting try pressing and holding pedal to floor see if sticks with power off.....

happened to me 3 times already, while im driving and get a pretty good stretch i press the pedal to the metal and it has stayed stuck on me and it wont let off, the pedal stays down and my car keeps on accelerating, the only way to stop this is to turn off the motor and bring my car to a stop, i keep kicking the pedal down until it loosens , then i can turn the car on, and make my way...what could i look for to correct the problem while in WOT??... thanks in advance....i have an 88 lx 5.0 aod with 3:73 gears
