They're Ford Racing and will be installed by a local performance shop. My local Ford Dealer said he would charge around $600 labor, another performance shop quoted me $750. My guy is going to do it for $400.

Well, let me answer my own question. After posting this original thread awhile ago, I just got my GT back from having 410 gears installed. WOW!!! Low end torque is excellent!! BIG difference from my 355's. 1st gear--ok, 2nd gear-- better, 3rd gear-- throws you back into the seat, 4th gear-- keeps you there! If your looking for a rather inexpensive way to get the feeling of more horsepower, this is it. The only downside (and it's a small one) is the rmp's are higher but not bad. Is it worth it--damn right!

Saaa--weeet. Glad to hear it!

Do you notice any whine from the gears?

(Hopefully not... But I've read a few stories of aftermarket installs resulting in this.)

Again, glad to hear it.

By the way, I was reading an article:

http://www.americanmuscle.com/mustan...ial-gears.html

which states that changing out the gears to a different ratio will cause an inaccurate speedometer reading.

Did you/your installer account for the difference and make the proper calibration adjustment?

And how much of a difference are we talking about, out of curiosity, if you know?

(I realize that, through some math, this could be calculated; but I'm not in that frame of mind at the moment. If I recall, you went from 3.55 to 4.10)

I ended up going with my local Ford dealer (they matched the price of my performance shop) and the highest calibration they could use was for the 3.73 gear. I'm going to check the speedo. tonight.

Does installing new gears require a completely new tune for the new gears or can you just adjust the gear ratio in your current tune to correct the speedo?
