Default Steering wheel upgrade dilemma

Hi guys,
I'm planning on upgrading the steering wheel in my base 2012 Mustang. Initially I thought I'd go for $250 Boss 302 steering wheel, but now I'm thinking of just getting a dealer take-off Premium leather steering wheel for $150.

I was wondering how is the feel of premium wheel compared to Boss 302 one? I assume a lot of people have replaced premium for boss 302, so I hope someone can answer my question.

Thanks

I have a GT premium and honestly if I were you I'd spend the extra and get the boss wheel. As someone with a premium leather wrapped stock I find it hard to justify the $250 to drop on the wheel and I'd still have to pull out the buttons to make everything work. I guess i still have other things id rather get instead.

If you don't have/don't use sync and you have the base wheel get it!

If money's not an issue for you, I say get the GT500 steering wheel. You get the feel of Alcantara like the Boss along with the look of a leather steering wheel. I have the GT500 steering wheel and I have absolutely no complaints about it. I love it! Whichever steering wheel you decide to go with will be a huge improvement from that hideous base steering wheel.

I put a boss wheel on mine. Love it

A major plus to the boss wheel is that it doesn't get molten hot in the summer.

You have to clean it more often though.

Im with Antonio. You get the feel of Alcantara and the leather steering wheel. I plan to do this to my Stang in the future. Cant wait!!
One thing that made me want the GT500 wheel is that i would be more worried of the Alcantara getting dirty or messed up somehow since the while wheel is wrapped with it.

Thanks guys.

I went for standard premium leather steering wheel. I was worried it would be a hasle to maintain alcantara. I just need something nicer compared to toy-like plastic wheels in base mustangs. And I saved myself $100 compared to Boss 302.

Btw, what should I expect to pay at dealership for labor to get it replaced? I got quoted at one for $160. A bit steep?

Really, just do it yourself. It's really easy. It only took me about 15-20 minutes. Here's what I used:

https://mustangforums.com/forum/2005...-for-s197.html

It shows it being done on a 05-09 Mustang, but everything is the same, so it'll work on yours as well. Post before/after pics once all is done!

very easy to do the install yourself as long as you're careful.

I went from the premium wheel to a nice grant wheel and now have the boss 302 ready to go in.

As you know the only real difference between the premium and the boss 302 is the alcantara. I have to say the alcantara DOES feel great, but is going the need periodic maintenance, which I am not looking forward to.

if you don't have radio controls on your steering wheel now, you will need the dealer to program the module to activate the radio controls once you put in the premium or boss wheel.

If you do decide on the premium, mine will be for sale after this weekend as will be the Grant steering wheel.

I'm gonna get this from AmericanMuscle for my '12 base car ($376):

http://www.americanmuscle.com/fordra...ing-wheel.html

I don't want buttons for stereo control - I just want a leather wheel with cruise control.

The alternative is going to Ford and paying too much ($460) for the Bullitt wheel.
