Default 11/12 GT front end on a 13/14

Has anyone swapped a 2011/12 GT front bumper/grille onto a 2013/14? It looks like it would fit as long as the hood was replaced with an 11/12 version as well.

Thanks,
Ken

Why would you want to do that? It seems like it would be more reasonable to just get a used 11-12 than to modify a 13 to look like a 11 with different tail lights.

I don't like to buy used cars because you never really know how it was treated. And Mustangs are very popular for modifications. Even though I don't do them, many do.

Thanks,
Ken

"Even though I don't do them, many do."

Now I'm confused. Didn't you start this thread saying you wanted to modify a 2013 with a 2011 front clip?

Anyway, I really don't have much input on the frontend swap, so I'll shut up. Just seems weird and ridiculously expensive to want to do that.

Doubt you're likely to find anyone that's done that particular mod. Here's what you do though. Look up all the front end part numbers for 2014 Mustang, and all the front end part numbers for a 2012 Mustang. And I do mean all of them. Not just the visible ones, but everything underneath that holds the front end together as well. The parts that have different numbers are the parts that will need to be swapped out.

That alone won't guarantee that the swap can be done without any further mods, but it will at least give you the list of parts that must be swapped out. In all likelihood it can be done, but the parts list is probably more extensive than it appears to be on the surface.

Sorry, I should have said performance mods. I've read threads where people ask "should I tell the dealer my trade in has a tune" and stuff like that. Kinda sours me to used cars, especially performance oriented ones like Mustangs.

And, yeah, I know it's a pretty crazy idea. I was just wondering if anyone was as crazy as I am.

Thanks,
Ken

Ah... yeah, I get your point on performance mods. And yeah... I'm as crazy as you! Heck check out my 2013 GT. I completely rebadged the entire thing as a "Magus 302" with a new hood and a custom decklid. So yeah... I do CRAZY things too!

Sorry... shouldn't have hijacked your thread with my pics. Just joining you as a fellow crazy guy who does stuff everyone else thinks is stupid. Now Back on track with the bumper-swap discussion.

I'm pretty sure the 2013 hood and front bumper is interchangeable with the 2012. The fenders line up with both hoods. You can even use the awesome 2013 headlights with the 2012 front end.

So in short, yes it is possible.. and I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find a 2011-12 owner that would be willing to swap with you.

The only thing I am not sure of is the radiator support and things behind the bumper cover, but it shouldn't be much different if any.

Yeah, I'm not the only crazy one here.

:-)

No problem FIFTHWIND. We all gotta stick together. LOL!

And thank you 07BLACKGT. From what I can see it should be a fairly straightforward swap. I'll have to compare my 2011 rad support to a 2013 one of these days.

I love my 2011 V6 (I put a GT front on it) but really want to move to a 5.0. Just can't get past the "bull nose" on the 2013 and up.

I guess we'll see what happens in the spring.

Thanks again for all of the comments. It's fun to discuss the abnormal. :-)
