Here's the deal: You do not need a small base circle cam if you use the link bar lifters.
You need small base circle cam if you use Ford OEM lifters and guide bars. This prevents the lifter from raising the guide bar off of its seat above the lifter bores which would result in noise and possible cataclysm.
The length of the two types of lifters is the same, not including the extension to attach the link. The lifter will not rise enough to open the oil passage and lose pressure.
