Well I'm going to look at motor tomorrow that I've been told came out of a '93 Cobra. Has 61K miles, came out of a car that had been rolled and totaled. Here's the question: How to tell if it's a true blue Cobra and not some POS a dude bolted a cobra intake onto.
I know what the differences are internally with the Gt40 heads and 1.7 rollers and all that but how to tell by looking at it while it's sitting on a trailer? What's the biggest clue I can readily see from the outside?
Anything that will prove it without a doubt?

make sure they are gt-40's.

I don't know the #'s off-hand, but find out what the block #'s should be as well as the tranny #'s. The Cobra's had an upgraded WC T5 tranny w/ steel bearing retainer and a few other things....rated at 310 tq instead of 300 like the WC.

The valve covers should also be stamped steel, not cast aluminum.

Ok, so blue injectors, stamped steel valve covers, and how to tell for sure on the heads?
Where to look on the heads for the Gt40 stamp? Is it cast in somewhere above the exhaust ports?

mine is supposed to be a cobra motor too, but i dont know how to tell either, its really fast and its got a lot of goodies though, it also has denso yellow injectors i dont know how to tell what lbph they are though , it also came with a massive pro-m intake and a huge MAF sensor but i dont have a filter for it and its hard to find one that big.

Casting is on right corner of the heads. You have to be looking at the heads from
the exhaust sides. GT casting on the top and bottom right corners.
I had to look on my car. It's cold as hell, outside!!!!
GTP casting = GT-40P (spark plug bolt on different)
