I picked upa bearing and seal today, need to change the driver's side rear wheel bearing. I have searched for directions but haven't found much. Anyone have a link to some directions? Or willing to type them up? Don't need to be too detailed, just the steps to get it done.

you need a bearing puller that you can slip inside the bearing after you take the axle out and then just yank it..I will try to find a writeup for you....

Thanks.... I am not too mechanically inclined, but my brother is. He has a bearing press, but since it is on the axle I don't think you can use that, like you said, you need a puller. Is it a special puller? Or will something like a steering wheel puller do the job? Also, how do you get the new bearing back in? I assume you can't use a press for that either?

If you can find a write up that would be great!

Also, are there shims or anything elsewe need to know about when pulling the axle?

You have to release the axle from the differential. which requires you to remove the differential cover. If you have no idea what your doing in there you should leave it to a pro. It's not hard but you said your not mechanically inclined and you don't want to mess anything up. And the bearing puller can be rented at most good Auto Parts stores. The one you need is a slide hammer type

my brother is going to help, he used to work at a garage. He just wanted to know what we were getting into, he has done wheel bearing before but never one where you have to pll the axle. Thanks, maybe I will just have it done, I already have the parts.

I got the bearing changed, my noise is still there. There is like a rubbing sound coming from the driver side rear. When you jack the car up and spin the tire you can hear it. I have reached all around the tire and I am 99% sure it's not rubbing on anything. I have put800 miles on the car since I bought it so I would think if it was rust or something on the pads that would have cleared up by now, and if the breaks were rubbing I would think the shop would have noticed that when they disassembed the rear end to change the bearing? They did call before they did it and say the bearing wasn't loose and wanted to make sure I wanted them to go ahead and change it, I told them to go for it anyway since I had a few people who used to work a lot on cars say they thought it was the bearing. I am pretty sure he changed it because I already had the parts and when I went to pick it up he said I had the wrong seal and he had to go get one and he gave me back the seal I brought.

Any other ideas on what could be causing this problem?

Bad inner bearing maybe?? Or you could have a brake that's dragging, and you just don't notice it... If you get a chance, take the car out for a short ride, and put your hand NEAR (not on) the rotor, and if it feels considerably hotter than the other wheels, then there's your problem.. Normally a dragging brake doesn't make much noise though, so I'm not sure that's your issue..

inner bearing? Isn't there only 1 bearing per wheel? They had to pull the axle to change it. I'll double check the breaks. Any other ideas?
