Default Engine Code P 1285

Cylinder Head Over Temp Sensed. It says this. what does this mean? Oh yeah I'm back now. I've been gone for a while since my car was getting fixed. I was in a minor accident. Now my car overheats from time to time and the heat takes a while to come on and sometimes doesn't work. Any suggestions on what to do? thanks for your help guys

what is your coolant level? here are the concerns i found for that trouble code

low engine coolant level
base engine concerns
engine cooling system concerns
cht sensor concerns

check your coolant level, check for leaks, check your oil...is it milky? head gasket maybe. what type of collision, was any part of your cooling system damaged? please post more information

if im not mistaken, my wifes car did the same thing. it started with the heat blowing cold air sometimes, and would overheat sometimes. i ended up having to replace the head gaskets.

i hope i dont have to change the gaskets. all i had to change was the upper radiator hose and now i'm noticing the fan for the motor is not moving whatsoever. the car would over heat on occasion but it stopped doing it after a while and the engine code just went away. antifreeze is coming out from somewhere still but not a lot. i think its coming out from the reserve tank because the cap is loose. thanks guys for all ur help

the fan is electric and only turns on at set temperatures, so it won't be continuously running. however it should turn on and off as the motor heats up, if it is not working at all then that would be why your car keeps overheating.
