2016 V6 3.7l Auto Drive shaft issue @1.5K miles
Hi All,
Am new here, please forgive any forum rule violations and feel free to correct.
I own a 2016 Mustang, V6 3.7l - Automatic.
My journey with the machine started with lot of excitements. It was amazing until i encountered the Clunk noise from the rear end of the car
Issue:
A clunk noise from under the car's rear end. This noise comes only when i shift from Drive to Reverse or Reverse to Drive.
Do not observe any noise while the Automatic tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd or any other gears.
May be I am not feeling it while driving
Response from Showroom
I took the car to the dealership and they said Drive shaft is loose and need to replace.
I understand that the issue will be covered under warrenty as the car has just 2K miles on it now.
But am worried because I had failures in very initial days and also it is in the transmission.
Please advise is it ok to change the drive shaft as per the dealership or any other points to be checked. Also will this repair cost me any additional charges?

Thank you ChopperTwo.
am little worried as the issue in brand new car.
I was trying to understand what could have caused this.
Is it a manufacturing defect or something really went wrong in my car?
I have not done any drag or rash driving till now.
Have done 80% of my miles on the highways only.

I have 7k miles on my 2016 v6 mustang. It's been dyno tuned since 1500 miles and everything is sold on my car. Hopefully everything is fine after its replaced. I did hear in 15 they had a problem with the driveshafts and switched vendors and that problem was fixed.

Update from Dealership
Hi All,
I gave the car to dealership to fix the driveshaft.
Got a call from them in the evening and below is what they said
"The issue is not with driveshaft but with the rear differential, we are facing the exact issue with one other 2016 Mustang that we sold few months back. This might be a recall from ford in future"
Other 2016 Mustang owners, do have a check on the clunk noise from under read end of the car while shifting from reverse to drive or drive to reverse

It's probably either an incorrect backlash measurement or incorrect preload on the pinion. Although incorrect backlash would also lead to whine. My money is on the preload setting. Someone on the assembly line probably didn't use the correct spec or their guage was out of calibration.

Am not good at the technicalities Derf have mentioned. It could be the same but sorry am not sure am a newbie .
What happened in my case was, the dealership mentioned it as drive shaft issue but later confirmed as a rear differential issue.
But they were able to fix it in 3 days.
now the noise is gone. I would suggest you to visit nearest dealership.
