Default changing gears in rear

I have a 2011 v6. I believe it has 2.73 gears in rear. I know you can get 3.31 if you order them. However I talked to the dealer where I bought it and the guy there said they can install 3.55 (I believe) gears in back. I might do that.
I think that would make it quicker off line and to 60. Although it is an auto, I think it would beat a v6 manual with 3.31 at that point. Any thoughts?

Gears will definitely help with acceleration

I don't have one yet, but 3.55 or 3.73 gears have crossed my mind.

How many RPM's @ 70 with your current gears?

I think the labor will be more expensive than the parts, so I would call around to see who will do it the cheapest, unless you can do it yourself. Keep us posted. I have the 3.31 on my automatic, but might consider 3.55s or 3.73s some time down the road. Probably 3.73s if I'm going to spend that kind of money. I have a friend who has his own auto repair shop, he would likely give me a good price on the labor.

Just out of curiosity, how would the 3.73 gears affect gas mileage. I don't see it being a big loss, but I was just curious.

I can't speak for your car in particular, but I do know with some experience I had with F-Body Camaros and Firebirds in the late 1990's and early 2000's, that going from a 2.73 to a 3.23 in those cars with an automatic resulted in about the same mileage "around town", city driving....but with the limited data I recorded, a 1-2 mpg drop on the highway (from about 24 to 22 on the highway.)

We had a 2.73 equipped LS1 Trans Am and a 3.23 equipped Z28 at the same time.

If you're regearing for performance, then you shouldn't be worrying about fuel mileage.

There is a spreadsheet for the 05-10's that you input your tranny type, gears and tire size and it'll spit out your RPM vs speed. The tranny's in the 11's have different ratios so that spreadsheet won't be accurate. If anyone has the spreadsheet for the 11's, post up.

I am thinking about changing gears too. I would go with 3:55.
Called dealer where I bought the car and was told $250 for the gears and 5 hours labor at $95. So with tax about $800. But it would still maintain
full warranty having them do it.
