Top speed of 6th gear(6-speed with 3.31). Fun with numbers.
I got bored and decided to figure out the top speed of the 6th gear in the mustang. This means how fast you are going if you did ever manage to reach 7000rpm while in 6th gear.(Which, as you will realize later, is very likely impossible unless you more than triple the horsepower of the engine).
So this is taking into consideration the pony package equipment of the mustang V6 in canada and the gear specs of the transmission:
Final Drive: 3.31:1
6th gear: 0.70:1
wheels: 235/50R18 performance all-season.
The specs for the transmission come from here:
http://media.ford.com/images/10031/2...g_V6_Specs.pdf
And the formula to calculate this is something I figured out on my own one day, bored again. Note: I know I did not invent the formula and a lot of people use the same math.
The formula is outlined on my personal website on the servers of the college, a class project I worked for web programming. The example is inspired from my Alero days and my time spent on the grand am forums lol:
http://etu.lacitec.on.ca/~2609575/te...speedcalc.html
Anyways. Skipping the whole formula, my result was a top speed of 392.78 km/h. This translates to 244.06 miles per hour.
Hope this answers some unasked questions :P

I'm very aware of this fact
I just thought that the huge wad of people on this forum who have handheld tuners would find this bit of information interesting as the limiter does not apply to them.
The highest this car could likely achieve I'm guestimating, stock with the limiter removed is maybe 155-160mph, drag limited.
This wasn't a bout of "OMG THE MUSTANG IS CAPABLE OF 240MPH". It's more of a concrete example of how long that 6th gear is geared. You know, some visual perspective and education.

You don't get my point. Again I am forced to explain that this isn't about explaining potential capability. This is just about providing numbers. I'm simply translating a gear ratio to a mile-per-hour figure. One which I am very aware is unobtainable in real life. I'm not in the business of getting anyone excited about 240+mph potential as it's unrealistic and again not the point.
This is me explaining that 6th gear has a ratio which is done in a certain way. And then providing the necessary math to help others figure out speed and RPM values for their own needs: Like trying to figure out what the 6th gear RPM differences will be when cruising at 60mph between a 3.73 rear end and 4.10. Or figuring out what the different shift points will be between different ratios and whatnot etc.
I'm not posting this so someone can wet their panties. Simply so they have a resource to go to if ever they have a question relating to gear-speed relationship.
