Default How well built are the new 2011 v6 stangs?

and what are some slight modifications that would give it some extra pep?

I mean ive never owned a stang before until now-dream car all these years finally able to get one but say for every day driving..occassional burnout here and there. How long does the extra and everything stay together and feel new?
and as for the other question what are some other non programming things you give the stang to give it extra pep/torque/horsepower? Cold air intake, exhaust?

Sorry..i know a little about cars just not no super mechanic. thanks for the help!

Can't answer your question as my '12 only has 1200 miles, but just take care of it and it should stay together fine. It's stiffer and more solid than my '06, and that was a great car up to 55k.

As far as performance goes, here's what I've turned up:

Pick up a SCT tuner & Airaid intake combo kit from americanmuscle to add 20hp or so.

Assuming you don't have the performance package (which gives you 3.31 rear axle ratio), you have 2.73 gears that are probably too tall for you. Find some take off 3.31s for $100 or so and pay $300-400 have them installed.

Call it done until the mod itch starts again...

1st: it's a Ford, not a Lexus. I've owned many, many cars; domestics and foreign. Ford has come along pretty well in quality but it's still designed and built primarily with the shareholders in mind. However, I'd say you should get at least 100k miles with now worries. But I'm spoiled. 6 Toyotas and all sold beyond 200,000 care-free miles only because I got tired of them.

2nd: There's a lot of great info on the forum about performance mods for the 3.7L. It all depends on how deep your wallet is. CAI & tune is about the best bang unless you supercharge. After that it's more nickel and dime power gains.

base models come with 2.73:1 ratio rear differentials or gears). Premium V6 models comme with the 3.31:1 ratio "gears". The thing with gear ratios is you either have higher possible speed on said gear or more power multiplication(acceleration). So as you already know, you can't reach a really high speed before you redline in 1st gear. However it's 1st that provides the power you need for taking off. 6th gear on the other hand is useless for taking off but allows your engine to turn over at a low RPM at highway speeds because it's geared more as a high speed gear. In essence, 1st has more multiplication while 6th has a higher potential speed.

Rear differential gears work the same way. except they impact every gear in your transmission by multiplying them(reducing top speed attainable at redline in each gear). So if you go from 2.73 gears to 3.31 gears all of your gears will have more multiplication, hense more power but will also redline at a lower speed. So to keep it simple 1st gear will have a bit more launching power with 3.31 than 2.73s but will also redline sooner speed wise while your 6th gear will have a higher highway speed RPM. Basically all your gears will have this side-effect. your RPM at X speed on X gear will be higher than before but also have a bit more power. You aren't making more horsepower but you are sending a bit more to the wheels in each gear compared to before, so the car will feel gutsier. The trick to choosing between different gear ratios fior the rear diff is finding the ideal personal balance between extra kick and desired cruising RPM.

I have 3.31 gears so at 70mph my engine in 6th is turning at 2000rpm. The base gears would make the engine turn at a lower speed which technically improves fuel economy but reduces individual gear performance a bit. More aggressive gearing would give you better power in each gear but your engine would cruise at a higher RPM.

I feel like I'm repeating myself. Meh whatever

Thanks a lot upsh1ft! How could I get 3.31 gears installed? Thanks again everyone. That's a good explanation.

buy them, and take to a local mechanic/shop to install, voila.

Gears, after a cai/tuner install, are the cheapest bang for buck speed increase you will see, imho.

AFAIK, the only '11-'12 v6 stangs that came with 3.31s were the performance package-- only available on coupes.

I WISH premiums came with 3.31s.

You're right, American mustang buyers had to opt for the performance package for the 3.31 gears.

Us Canadians are blessed by having 3.31 gears standard on the premium models .

As proof, my 3rd ends at aprox. 100mph. Before and after a tune where I specified 3.31.

Edit: Yes you are allowed to be jealous :P

As for getting gears installed, I've seen many users report that it is PARAMOUNT to get the rear diff gears installed by a shop that either has a LOT of experience doing this or that outright specialises in these installs. The reason being that the alignment has to be perfect or it will quickly create irregular wear patterns, make the gears ultra noisy and outright ruin them.

Do some journalistic investigation before you pick a shop. A dealership is more expensive but it might be a safer bet.

You know where it says this officially. I'm from Alberta, Canada and the salesmen told me that all v6 (except performance package) come with the 2.73 rear end.

Now I totally agree with you as I have a 2012 pony package equipped car. and if I choose the 2.73 gear option on my tuner the speedo reads fast but if I choose stock or 3.31 option the speedo is correct.
