Real World Gas Mileage on Performance Package

MPG Question
Mine is a 2013 V6 Automatic, std, no PP. Just barely broken in with 1200 miles. If I drive it carefully I'm get ~24 around suburbia, and 32 on the highway at 55MPH, 28MPG at 79MPH I am very pleased that it getting slightly better than EPA (my 05 Prius gets 10MPG less than EPA)
So my question... when driving around town, I can just keep the Automatic in D or use sport shift. I'm curious if using the sport shift to start in 2nd gear would improve MPG? On one hand the acceleration is slower, but on the other hand there is probably more slip from the torque converter.

I have a 2012 V6 Performance Package, and I'm averaging 20-23mpg (according to the trip computer). This is with resetting the calculation at each fill up, over 2 or 3 fill ups. I drive 70 miles round trip to work, mostly highway at 65-80mph. In between I'm driving enthusiastically whenever the opportunity presents itself, which isn't as often as I'd like :-)
What are you guys getting?

The thing that gets me is how inconsistent my mileage is under the same driving condition. I can drive with the cruise control on the same stretch of road, at the same speed in the same direction and get 24MPG one day and 28MPG the next. SMH, I give up.

That is very puzzling. Obviously if it was a hotter day the A/C might run more, but I doubt if that would account for more than 1 MPG. Wind? Different Gas? I assume you are check the same direction. Because the return trip might be different if there is a grade.
