Default Lightweight front Brakes for the 3.7 v6

On the subject of shaving of weight,,

Strange Lightweight Front Drag Brakes - Mustang V6 3.7L
$600.00
-4 piston directional billet aluminum calipers
-Billet Mounting brackets
-One piece forged steel directional slotted rotors
-Brake pads
-Grade 8 hardware
-Weighs Only 23.7 lbs
So far for $600 this seems like a great deal, I wonder how streetable these brakes are?

I have not seen the weight listed for the base model brakes like I have

http://www.shelbystore.com/product-p/z28-2261026.htm
this kit has lightweight 2 pc rotors, (14" Baer) and brackets to move the calipers for $717

the roush ebay store has the take off Brembo set, front and rear for $1200,, that is a smoken deal, I wonder what the weight savings is over stock,, well I am wondering that about all these products.. I wish they would put in the description.

I think DBA makes really light rotors but they are pricey. I ended up switching to the 5.0 front rotors. I like to think of them as a poor man's big brake kit lol.

Roush sells them cheap and basically in as new condition. No sense in buying the rear sets since the 5.0 uses the same rotors as the v6:

These just bolted right up? Using the stock caliper bracket?

Edited... Never mind. I see they come with a new bracket. So then do you have to change the caliper itself? Doesn't the bracket alone make up for the larger rotor or are the pads too different?

You technically just need the bracket and the rotor, but Roush sells them all together since they are takeoffs. I think they get new 5.0s from the factory and convert them into Roush packaged vehicles. It's a great deal especially if you consider how much it would cost to source everything. I paid $125 without pads, but it looks like they are leaving the pads on them now. You use the same pads, they aren't any different between the v6 and 5.0 other than compound.

That's why I picked up a set of rear rotors too. Hard to beat $40, and these won't be available forever. They'll keep just fine in the garage, in the Roush box.

That's actually not a bad idea. I was thinking more about the here and now. I think Roush sells the full set for $225. Let me double check.

Exactly, good stuff. I went with front/rear rotors, front caliper & bracket. I'll add new pads.

Using the take offs from the GT is real appealing, you can stock up on brakes now cheap sell off the extra parts

I am still trying to figure out what the best combination of wheel, tire and brake size is. It gets complicated when you consider I am wondering weather to switch to a 18" or even a 19" wheel from a 17". Now you can find some lightweight 17" wheels and tires but your brake choices are limited right? I don't think the GT front brakes will fit in a stock 17" wheel, not that the GT Rotors weigh less, but it is one less option available.

Then when you look at the other light weight rotors and calipers I don't yet know if any of them fit the 17" wheel. I suspect you can move up to 18" wheel and tire and larger brake rotor and new caliper and still save weight over staying with the 17" wheel. I also have not figured out exactly what the oem rotor and caliper weigh, just like when I tried to look weight of various wheels and tires, the values were all over the place. I think the V6 with 17" wheel comes with 12.4" rotors and the 18" wheels come with 13.2" rotors.

found a thread about an install with the Strange Drag brakes,
"The drag brakes are nice! there not recomended for daily driving/street use b/c the rotors as u can see are very thin. So when driving on the street be careful to not brake as hard as you normaly would. It saved me about 40-50lbs from the OEM Brakes on the front end. Im trying to get into the 11s this Friday so the car needs a diet."

I suppose it is one step to far for a daily drive,,,

Yep, I sold my old front brakes for over half what I paid for the GT brakes. A 4.0 owner upgraded his brakes with my old ones.
