Default Gears 2.73 to 3.73

Sup guys,

Just wanted to know if anyone had 2.73 gears and jumped up to 3.73 gears. I have the 2.73s and I feel that I am missing on some "pull". Will switching my gear ratio for higher ones solve that? Opinion much appreciated.

you'll probably cream your pants when you see what a difference those would make. even better (depending on application/driving) try looking into 4.10s.

Gears are the single best mod I've done so far! I started with the 2.73s, and though the car still ran pretty strong (13.78 bone stock), NOTHING compared to after the gear swap.

As the other fella mentioned, since you're an auto, look into the 4.10's. They are a little steep for us m6 guys (4.26:1 first gear, something like that lol), the auto guys seem to be happier with the 4.10s, or wish they had gone with 4.10 vs 3.73. Either way you go, you will be extremely pleased with the results!

I feel exactly the same way. I wish I did the gears first. I didn't know what I was missing and I had 3.31 gears from the factory. I'm pushing around 340bhp/325tq....or 290whp/275wtq, whatever number floats your boat and the gears were still more dramatic than the extra 35hp. I have 3.73 gears now. And I get 28mpg if I can stay below 75mph. Anything over that and MPGs drop like a rock.

What is needed, besides the gears themselves, to install?

Someone to install them? Lol, that and the correct differential fluid and the ability to correct the odometer/speedo.

I always thought that if you put bigger gears in it hurt your gas mileage?

Yes it does hurt your MPG. But it also depends on how you drive. Some loose about two MPG but not much more. I went from 2.72s to 3.73s on my 95 and stayed really close to what I was getting originally. And like others were saying it is a great mod that you definitely feel EVERY time you drive the car.

I am so totally doing gears this summer and a shaftmaster. With my T-5 I'm going to go from 3:31 to 3:73 for a DD that should be a nice bump. thing should literally jump off the gears with the new DS too.

I heard one guy say last summer doing gears feels damn close to a 75 shot of NOS.
