Not everyone runs out and spends hundreds of dollars for a couple horsepower improvement. And when people think that "everyone" who buys the 4cyl turbo are going to rush out to do add ons, I bet less than 25% of owners actually do such modifications to mustangs as a whole. Sure on a Mustang specific forum the number will be higher, but in the real world I bet the percentage is pretty low.

But the lower revised hood certainly could and probably has affected the intake system and thus the 5hp reduction in the V6 I imagine. What I have been told by a pretty reliable source who works for ford

But they're gaining significant HP with the 5.0. I doubt there's a clearance issue under the hood for the 3.7. We'll really just need to wait until they announce the HP for each of the engines. Hopefully they'll announce all of them at CES next month.

I think we'll have to wait and see.

There is a nice Mustang Video from Jay Leno, the first 1/2 of the video is about the origin of the mustang and the last half is a nice close up Q and A with Fords Chief Mustang Engineer, while the official out put numbers are not stated, the 3.7 is still being rated at over 300hp. The Red Prototype 2015 5.0 looked a lot better to me then in this video then other photos and videos I had seen. I think it looks slick.

I have to say, if the 2.3l Turbo is not to much more expensive then the 3.7l it is going to be real tempting for someone like me who drives a lot of mile.

I see the 3.7 slowly on its way out. You will definitely have the 2.3l and the 5.0. But you look at the f150, in 2015 the engine options will be 2.7L, 3.5L, 5.0L. first two are supposedly ecoboost. I enjoy my 3.7L. I don't think a 4cyl belongs in an iconic American muscle car.

You know the Mustang had three engines in the 80's right? A 2.3L (88HP), a 3.8 V6, and the 4.9 V8 (aka 5.0). Those 2.3L, 4 cyl Mustangs made up almost half of the sales in the 80's and helped keep the Mustang in production.

How do you see the 3.7 on the way out? The amount of money and R&D that FoMoCo put into the engine and the thing is'nt even a few years old and then on top of that the f150 also uses the same 3.7. I just dont see it happening look how long ford used the tried and true 3.8 engine. (it may have had a few upgrades frew the years but it was all ways the same architecture)

I see the v6 going away if the sales numbers plummet. I don't see the 4 going away anytime soon at all. I don't know what all this hate is for it. I guess that comes form thanking the Mustang is a muscle car first. Well, it's not. It's a cool car that can be made to go very fast but not a muscle car. Viva la Coyote!

I can see the V6 going away if the price is similar to the new 4 banger. Why would anybody want a slower version of the mustang if they can get one that is quicker for a similar price?

Look at what the 2015 F150 just came out with. 2.7 ecoboost, 3.5L, and the 5.0. The 3.7 has been erased from the lineup along with the 6.2(Raptor engine).

Now think about it, most people want gas mileage nowadays. If they can buy a 2.5L ecoboost and get more MPGS than a 3.7, wouldn't that be more economical? I just don't see the 3.7 staying around too much longer. They might introduce the 3.5 into the lineup. Nobody knows. Only speculation at this point. But when I saw they dropped the 3.7 from the f150 lineup, I think its only a matter of time.
