ok, i got a xe270 that i paid $250 plus for. i work for ford and was wondering if i should just order a FRPP cam, but i've heard such bad things about them. i can get them for around $120 i think, and i could return the xe and save money. i'm just trying to see if i should put my money into them if they are "so bad".

I am old tech......Ford is old tech....pushrod engines is old tech.....does that make it bad?.....(I know....2 out of 3 ain't bad).......

FRPP cams = Crane cams (most of them)........I do suggest to degree them and you'll find out.....I did!......

 

its not that a ford cam is a crane or not or whatever (quality is top notch either way), its the grind profiles. the ford cams are single pattern, low tech design. getting into something dual pattern will help the exhaust side breathe better and you will make more power

Now.....getting into the Ford = dual pattern always favoring the exhaust, everything else is old tech case.......isn't that the same as saying that a single pattern cam with a split rocker ratios setup (1.6 Intake/1.7 exhaust) could do the job?.......

Why did Ford Engineers favored the intake when they redesigned the "speed density" roller cam from a 266°/266° duration to a "mass air" 276°/266° duration cam?.......instead of a 266°/276° duration cam?..

 

its not that they are bad cams. they were great cams at one time. technology has changed and there are better cams to choose from now

 

i meant quality isnt an issue when comparing crane and frpp - they are both going to be a quality product in terms of metallurgy

 

Within the limitations of SADI cores.....yup.

 

most frpp cams are designed with low lift figures so they can be used with stock pistons, heads etc.

dont bother running one, most people buy e303's beacuse they have a slightly choppy idle. you can get the same sound with more lift from a modern cam and make more power.

i am not a fan of crane cams. i seen one fail in under75 miles in my buddys 351c, after 6 months of back and forth crane agreeded to pony up for a new motor. block, crank, heads etc. after they got the cam back they said it much have been cracked durring manufacturing and was not noticable.

its good they finally took care of him but he lost his numbers matching motor from his 70 mach1. he got stuck with all the machine work, and half the cost of the block. they said they would allow up to $175 for a block, the best he found was $350.
