chrislakie, it depends largely on what your 302 came out of. Post-82 HO 302, then the firing order is the same and your EFI computer will work.
Unless you have an aftermarket TBI and fuel rail set up (ala Mass Flow Injection), then you will need an EFI intake to swap onto the previously carbed 351. Hope this helps...

If MF were a Disney movie, I'd be the retarded step-brother who eventually saves everyone by hitting the burgular over the head with a frying pan and then clapping my hands all retarded-like.
I just posted the new sound clips from the new "Blood" Line of exhaust systems from MagnaFlow. They are still in the testing phase and say they will have them for retail sale in early winter http://reignofblood.net/link.php?n=80220 its NASTY!
I'm bout to get a mild built 351w and t-5 tranny for 200 bucks from my cousin for my 1986 3.8 auto. Besides pedals and a clutch assembly which I need to get a hold of. What should I do for a carb? Do I have to change the lines or pump from my throttle body engine? Can I use my alternator and power steering? Or do I use the ones that are already on the engine?
the 351 uses the same camshaft as the 5.0 ho.so the 5.0 fuelinjection and fieringorder will be the same and will work on the 351.It is that simple. The onley prob you will have in a fox body your stock hood will not clear.
i own a 1984 ford bronco that has a 351 windsor under the hood and i have to say that i swear by that engine. at 356,000 miles the harmonic balancer came apart busting out the entire front of my timing cover and lost all my oil. i drove it home over 340 miles this way with absolutly no oil in it. i replaced the balancer, timing cover with junkyard parts and a new set of lifters. under $150 and the engine now has 547,631 miles on it and still runs srtong. i've always ran castrol syntec 10w-40 oil and changed it every 8-10,000 miles. i have never seen a 302 make it past 200,000 without hearing a little chatter starting in the main barings. so yes i would most definatly recomend the 351 over the 302 any day for both reliability and hp.
Will a stock T-5 tranny bolt up to a stock 351w and if it does how long would it last(can it handle the hp and torque?.
My Brother and I are trying to figure this same thing out.
As far as I can figure, all we need to do is use a Manual Flywheel from a 351W F-150 that accepts the '87 5.0's 10.5" clutch.
I know that all 351W's were 28oz. balance as well as 1968-81 302's but the flywheel/clutch mating is the only thing I need to know.
Can't remember how many teeth are on the 5.0 HO's?? 157 or 164?
Can anyone confirm what flywheel we need?
-Thanks
The 351W/T-5 will be ok for a daily driver with a mildly built Windsor, but I wouldn't be dumping the clutch and ramming thru the gears too often.

you can not use a truck flywheel as they are 11 inch and have 164 teeth the 5.0 HO mustangs use a 157 tooth flywheel. either you have to buy a new 28oz unbalance flywheel or you have to find one out of a pre1981 mustang however they only had 10inch clutches and your 87 had a 10.5 inch clutch. if you look you can find a new flywheel for $100
yeah 351 will have more torque and it will be easier to break the T-5 so be gentle. Good Luck

My supercharged 302 is now rolled over to 300146 miles and still runs.. But I will say it could use a 351w! My question.. Will my vortech mounting brackets work on the 351? I saw that it is wider at the top but does anyone know if it will still bolt up??
