Default 408 stroked 351w--heads and compression

i ordered my rotating assembly friday and understand that i will have approx 10:1 compression with Edelbrock rpm performer heads. eagle forged rods and piston with steel crank.

can i run less than 93 octane?

i have yet to order the heads but thought of going with edelbrock intake, cam, heads.

any other suggestions?

this will go in '69 vert.

you can order heads with bigger or small combustion chambers, 58cc 60cc ect....

a bigger chambe will lower compression but allow use of cheaper gas but make less power.
just gotta decide what you want and order that size chambered head.

dont hold me too this, but....... 58cc head would put you in 10to1 area while the 60cc in the mid 9's
( with flat top pistons ) check with head manufacturer for sure though.

i believe the 58 is the route i was going.

what kind of hp will i make with a moderate cam---to 5500 rpm?

i am hoping about 450 at the crank with 750 edelbrock or something similar.

what about demon carbs? heard both good and bad about them.

there are many things to take into account when figuring cr. Forget the published numbers, they dont take into account what head gasket you run, bore size of head gasket, how far or above the piston is in the hole, stroke etc. Give me some numbers and I will tell you the compression, remember stroke is factored into compression, so if they publish a certain cr for a stock 351 and you have changed the stroke, cr changes.

i had 3 versions of the stroker kit and had a buddy who does some racing with Ford order the parts at his discount. At this point the only numbers i can tell you is that the CI is 408 instead of 427, that i have a dished piston and that i told him i was going with 58 cc heads via edelbrock. i have not yet purchased any other parts, gaskets or else.

any suggestions on the gaskets?

is greater than 10 to 1 something i want to stay away from with this car---mostly weekend driver.

i just want something that is great fun to drive and will keep up with the new mustangs and some of the 5.7L camaros---maybe even some older corvettes.

I cant guess and be accurate, you need to know what cc the dish is on the piston, if the piston is at 0 deck, below the deck or above the deck. Typical 351 gasket bore will be 4.100. You can run 11:1 and pull a few degrees timing out of it. But its impossible to say when you dont have the figures, I would hold off on buying heads till you know the needed numbers to make the correct cylinder head purchase

thanks.

i want to put all this together in October and have a manual trans put in as well.

do you have an opinion of what gaskets/kits are best? at this point i'm a rookie at this stuff and seem to get alot of differing opinions. i just dont what to do this 2 times if it can be helped.

A fel-pro gasket kit is fine for your application, we need some numbers like I asked before I can recommend a certain head gasket thickness though.

will do.

i presume i will get the rot. assembly this week and put my maching shop to work getting the bottom end set up.

after i get the deck height i'll get back with you.

thanks again!

assuming i made about 10 to 1--what hp will should i expect with rpm performer top end stuff--carb , intake, heads and cam [to 5500]???
