351/C4 TRANS
I am doin a 351/c4 build up and was told the block year didnt matter. Is there a difference for a c4? I only plan on about 400-450hp and i looked online and from 79-80 seems to have the most parts availiable. I have never done a Auto rebuild, this will be my first overhaul so any advice will help, anyone make a book for rebuild? Chilton/Haynes

RE: 351/C4 TRANS
other than if the c4 came with a 6 or 8, i dont think there is a difference
im doing the same thing, 351C 4V and c4 auto
i am just getting my c4 rebuilt with a bigger stall converter and a shift kit

RE: 351/C4 TRANS
when buying parts to rebuild a c4, make sure you buy a good, valve body and servo, so it doesnt have a problem going into drive. C4s are notorious for having ... i wouldnt call it slipage into drive, its more like a hesitation in between the gears from 2nd too drive. almost like you hit nuetral before you shift into drive... even with a shift kit it will still do it.
but a good valve body and servo usually fixes that problem.

I love this book! It saw as much action as just about any tool in my shop. It's definately covered in more grease and oil than some. The book has tons of specs, great pics and instruction rivaled by few. Check it out.
