Default Carb size for 408 stroker

i've got a 351w stroked to 408. using edelbrock heads [performer], rpm intake, roller rockers, compression at 10:1.

i'm now using a edelbrock 600 cfm.

should i change, and if so what size and what kind?

what about an efi conversion?

anyone done that?

thanks.

cubes times rpms diveded by 3,500 will give you apx CFM needed on engine

so.......... 408 X 6,500 = 2,652,000 / 3500 = 758cfm

750-800 cfm carb should do the trick.
of course those are lab numbers assuming near perfect engine flow.

750 is what i recomend
i wouldnt put a holley on a lawn mower i was about to throw away, after i ran a quick fuel carb.
or a barry grant.
but everyone has their own opinion.
when i got my new quick fuel out of the box, i could smell gas, that means they tested it!!! to make sure it was right.
over the years i have prolly bought 15 holley , and BG carbs, and never smelled gas in them , when i bought them.
that means they didnt test them.
blake carbs are good too, but only for a track car, but yeah i would keep it simple and put a carb on it.

My vote is also for Quickfuel. They are top notch. There carbs flow above the standard rating. Here is my 750HP from Quickfuel.

It has worked perfect since installed 4 years ago.

Thanks for the replies.

393 bird-love your setup! i was leaning toward a BG, but i was told their customer service was not good. I've had hot/cold reception to the Holley's. i hear that they are require a constant battle to keep them clean, but when running well they kick butt.

are there any specific versions of the quick fuel for the 750's ?

I really appreciate everyone's help on this stuff.

thanks for the compliments-this is the car i've dreamed of since i was a kid---except better as i wanted a camaro and now am converted to a true ford/mustang believer!

They will congfigure a carb for what you need. Call them and tell them what you have. With you having a standard trans, and a low geared rear, I am sure they will recomend a mechanical secondary carb if you are after performance. They also have some trick vac ones, with completly adjustable secondaries. Those can be set so the secondaries do not open till very low vac, (wot), then changed very easy for track use. Ask for Marvin.

For the price of a hollyor BG you can get a prosystems carb it will matched to you cam, heads, and intake. The jetting as perfect and it the running carb I,ve owned I thought it wasfuel injectedbecasue it ildes easy and does not stumble. You can go on lineto there web site and fill out a build sheet.
