What kind of weight difference is there between a 351 and 302? Would a 351 with aluminum heads be close to a all iron 302. If not could the difference be made up with a fiberglass hood or tubular K member?

Stock for stock, i'veread thereis a 75-80 lbs difference. Def. worth it, we are talking less than a 1/10.

Not surprisingly, the 351W weighs more than the 302--an additional 100 pounds when you’re comparing apples to apples. If you’re replacing your 302 with a 351W of like configuration (i.e., both have iron heads), the added weight won’t adversely affect the handling of your car, and it will drop front ride height only an additional 1/4 inch, according to our experts. However, if you want to gain the muscle and lose the fat, you can use aluminum heads, a tubular K-member, an aluminum radiator, a fiberglass or carbon-fiber hood, and move the battery to the trunk (or any one of the above). These mods will make any weight difference imperceptible.

thats from an old article i found a while back

I cant wait to get my car up on the scales before winter rolls around... with my new K member, rebuild tranny... new engine... and slightly "modified" accessory drive... I should have dropped a few lbs too

So far I have a Harwood fiberglass hood, Trick Flow aluminum heads, Flex-a-lite aluminum radiator/ electric fan combo, and a 11lb Braille battery. The only thing I have put on so far is the battery though. Also have a carbon fiber driveshaft, but that does nothing for the front of the car and it probably only saved 10 lbs at most.

If I can get the weight down to what a normal 5.0 front end weighs I would be very satisfied.

Thanks for the info.
