Default 427W in an SN95

okay, so some people think i'm nuts for wanting to do this. i have a 351W shortblock pulled from a 94 F-250 and bored n stroked to 429. i want to put on a set of CNC ported TFS-R heads. but i want to keep it EFI. i've heardthat i need engine mounts from an 83 5.0L vert or some aftermarket drop mounts. and Hooker makes a set of unequal shorty headers that i want. but i still have some questions.

first off: what cam would be the best for the street, i read an article about a 9.5 deck height block that was just over 428 cubes w/ a set of the heads i want running a Comp Cams camshaft, i don't recall what lift and duration it had, but it was more aggresive than i want. and i'm not sure what cfm fuel injectors to run either.

second: does anyone know what Steve Saleen did to fit a 351W block in his S351s with those low profile hoods. i want to run a low hood, i don't like 3.5 inch cowl hoods. if i have to run one thats fine, but i'd rather not.

third: i've heard from a few mechanics that i can use the ECM from an 89-93 5.0L to control the 351 with no problem, personally i'm calling b.s. on that, especially w/ the 7.0L displacement that i'll be running

anyone who has done an SN95 351 swap, your help would be greatly appreciated

If you can find the real 83 vert mounts they help. The Ford replacements don't offer the drop. The headers are fine. With the heads you want though you will need either alot of compression or a blower. I would recommend a set of TFS high ports or AFR 205's with a street port and polish. You will need to pick your camshaft depending on where you plan on driving it and your heads, trans combo, and a few other factors. You injectors depend on hp levels. With combo you are looking at figure on more than a 42lb injector. You'll need a injector driver (low impedence) for that. Don't try a band aid using larger injectors that are high impedence. Been there, didn't work. Saleen used a lightning lower and a 93 Cobra upper. Your combo would be choked with this. You'll have to run a cowl hood for your combo to work unless you went with a EFI srider intake and used an elbow. Even then you will probably need a small cowl unless you put spacers in the K-member. As for the ecm if you change to the 93 and earlier A9L computer it iwll make more power. You just have to change some pin programming and then run a fan controller. Not something to attempt if your new to this. The swap in a 94-95 is easier than alot think.

yeah, i figured that even 42lb injectors wouldn't cut it for the hp that i want. i'm looking for right at 650 at the wheels, i know that a 7.0L EFI is capable of more but i want to stay N/A and i still want a very streetable car when its all said and done. the intake stuff won't be a problem to get, and actually the hood that i want is a 3.5" Ram Air hood so i don't even mind running a higher hood. the mounts i don't imagine would be too hard too find, but you never know.

is the A9L computer a pretty standard ECM or is that a special order kind of deal? i honestly don't know jack about computers. doing pin programming and all that stuff is something i'll have a professional do, i've never done anything w/ the computers, i don't even want to try it.

The nice thing about the 89-93 computers is that everything is changeable for the most part, cid, injector size, maf transfer, spark/fuel table, boost or no, nitrous, you name the mod and it can be programmer with stuff like tweecer rt/moates gear/EEC analyzer. I know a guy via the internet who has successfully run his 408 stroker 351C using these same computers. You will need a complete fox harness and computer and a lot of patience or a good tuner, sounds like a wild ride...650 hp daily driver.....as far as a cam, maybe give Jay Allen a call, he can set you up.

Actually you don't need a fox harness. You take the 94-95 harness and change a few pins in the computer harness at the ecu, pull out the pins for the fan and run them to a fan controller and the mod is done. Someone on the corral posted the change. It doens't take too long either.
