I know in the late '70s and early '80s that Ford's engine power went downhill. I know a guy selling a 351w out of a 1979 van. I was wondering if I rebuild it, put new heads, make it EFI with a new intake, and a cam will it push out the same rwhp/rwtq numbers when I put it in my '94 as if i was to do the same modifications to a '94 351w or a '69 351w? If not then which years of the 351w should I stay away from?

in the mid '70s ford began putting 302 heads on the 351 so if you change those you can get alot of inprovement, a stronger cam always helps since it is the personality of the motor and a good intake to let it all breath and you will be able to put down some decent numbers depending on what h/c/i combo you chose.

so it is the same as a 69 or 94 351? just has a different head to make it less powerful? so if i was to put the same heads a 69 or 94 has it will be the same and make the same power?

the block ispretty much the same except that the deck height changed in 72 from 9.480 to 9.5 but other than that as far as i know they are the same, they have diff. heads, cam, intake, and probobly comp. ratio. if you used the same pistons heads cam andintake you should have the same power
