Default RE: 351W in '98 6cyl????????

no video of it yet,I am gonna try and get some in the next two weeks if it gets warm.

Well I don't know about numbers but my buddy has a windsor in his F150 that has 33 12.50s on it that has victor jr heads, roller rockers, 11.1 to 1 compression pistons, rpm performer intake, 750 carb, pretty large cam 560 570 with something like 270 280 duration, 1 5/8 headers, stock rods and crank. He makes good power hasseen him burn the 33 12.50s off into 3rd gear (has a 4spd with 4:10s). A good set of heads somecompression and a cam to tie it all togetheron a 351 is nothing to shake a stick at.

*Edit* That 351 in the truck only gets 5-6 mpg on 93 pump gas but it gets run hard. my 2-4 mpg was running around back roads only getting intoit where I wouldn't hit a tree which isn't many places but when i was in it it was high rpms so it was sucking the gas.

Gotta love the 351W. It doesnt matter what combo you have it still comes up short with the fuel economy Im not worried about it but like I said I do want to be able to drive it. I had a buddy who had a 95 GT and that thing only got roughly 15mpg. So I knew what I was getting into when I started this. Once you start talking HP the gas $$ goes out the windo so to speak. Im still stoked to build this car. My first project and its finally gonna make some good power and look sharp. Im leaving tomorrow morning to head down south for the paint and get my motor and possibly change out the 7.5" rearend for the 8.8" with 4.10's[sm=wootwoot.gif]

I will get back to this thread after a few days or so.

JACKPOT!!! lol. it looks like **** but its whats inside that counts. Got this for $100. Story behind it goes someone put it in a truck and wired it wronge and after 2 days of having it in the truck it burnt. Supposidly this motor only has about 500 miles on it. stock 351 crate engine from ford. Has the ford motorsport logo on the oil filter and the oil pan and block still has the grey paint on it. Tearing it apart tomorrow. if all that was said is true, I just saved a butt load of money. Im going Edelbrock RPM heads intake and cam. After reading up and talking to the techs, this was best suited. Somewhat mild cam with .224/.234" @ 0.50 .496/.520 lift. 170cc intake runners with 60cc comb. chamber. Go with 650cfm.Not a ton of power, but for what I am doing it is good enough to enjoy and drive everyday if I want.
Trying to figure out this tranny mess though. I dont know if I need to run a stand alone computer for the 4r70w trans or not.....?? Any ideas if I could get by with the stock computer to run it with a carbed motor?
Ordered the tubular Kmember today as well.

Starting to look like a motor again and not a smoldering melted heap of scrap. After inspecting the motor a bit, I found a tad riveted into the block with part no. 1267335 stamped on it. .30 over pistons.

As I was walking out the door this evening the UPS guy dropped off the edelbrock head kit along with my K member from QA1. Going tomorrow to assemble it. I would have done it today but everyone left the shop early today so I have to wait [:@] Anxiety sucks like a ****.

I STILL cannot find LT headers for this car! WTF you would think atleast one company would make them. Well make them in the right size anyway. 1 5/8" is biggest I found. I dont know if I can use FOX Body LT's or not. ???? I want 1 3/4 atleast. At this point I dont care if they are ceramic coated or not.

Tech said should be up around 400hp give or take a little. Even if I get up close to that I will be happy and it will still be streetable at around 10:1.

NOT with those small heads and cam! You wont get that at the flywheel or at the wheels. You'll be lucky if you see 300-320 at the flywheel!

With a 60cc chamber and that stock dish piston expect at most 9.5-9.7:1 C/R

Maybe not but with the comparisons that I did, to some of the other motors numbers I found I figured it would be more than enough for what I needed right now. If I ever do anything more to it, then I will step up the heads and cam but for now it's fine. I didnt want to go for all out race heads/cam though. Not like I am going to be racing it anyway. If I would have gotten the motor I needed to fully tear apart I would have went a little different, but since I am working with what it had, I have to make do with whatever comes out of it.

Don't get me wrong it will be a nice mild street engine. But not 400 hp worth. Good luck with the build! I understand the budget part. I am also on a budget, but I won't crap out on stuff I need!

thats all I was shooting for was a nice streetable engine. thats why I bailed on the stroker. I want to be able to drive this car with as much work as I have put into it bringing it back to life. I will be happy with what ever numbers comes out of it as I really didnt spend as much as thought I would.

Ok as this is my first motor being built, I am having alot of fun, However trying to peice together everything to get this car to run is so far a nightmare. Different computers to run the trans as it is an auto[&o] all the "extra" little tid bit things that seem to keep poping up. If I had to do this over again, I think I would just go buy a cobra with a 5 speed and call it good, lol. Then again I havent even heard this thing run or feel what kind of power and tourqe it has so I may change that stamtement in the near future. If this motor wouldnt have been burned up things would have been better and I would have had a few things I wouldnt of had to go junk yarding for. anyway here it is............

Waiting on Hooker headers and computer for trans and it's a green light to start pulling the sixxer out (which died out on me today) I think its the EGR valve [:@] Dies out on an idle but cool if I keep it tached a little abouv 1,200. Reason to speed this project up.
