Default whats needed to go to carb.

Ok, still working on my build, itll be a 408 or 418 just looking for the specifics now before i start ordering parts over the next few months.

I plan on going to carb (was planning on efi but it added alot of $ to the budget)
Where do i source my dist?
do i need an msd box?
am i going to have to do anything special to keep my power brakes, and heat?
with the stroker will i be able to keep the engine at stock height and still keep my stock hood.
can i just use a regulator on the stock fuel pump or will i need to go the route of a mech, in which case do i need a different tank?
anything and everything about the carb swap would be nice to know, i tried searching but most the links were old and thus dead

more speciffically where do i source my Dizzy from, and do i need an aftermarket box to run it, if its a street car do i go vacuum advance, and will my stock fuel pump handle the carb well or will i run into fuel pressure problems even with a fuel pressure regulator.

distributor can be had from anywhere, jegs, summit, corral classifieds always have good stuff.

no u dont need an aftermarket box but with what your building i would.

and no the stock efi pump should not be used ,get a good aeromotive pump and be done with it.

okay, so heres what i have so far on the shopping list
A Holley Blue Fuel Pump with built in regulator
A MSD 6al-2 box with rev limiter
A Billet pro street 351w dist.
prolly an 800 or 850 holley carb, and a torker II intake

so you are saying i can use the stock tank, just pull the fuel pump and install a line for out and then a return line. Do i need to fab anything to do this, or will they just tap into the top of the tank, and do i just run any line down into the tank for the pick up.

Just make sure when you buy your distributor that it is the correct one. Vic jr, Super Vic and other victor series intake manifolds all take a different lenght distributor. I can only assume this to be the case with other aftermarket intake manifolds used on stroked motors.

well, since a stroked motor has the same deck height i dont think most intakes it would matter, but thanks for the heads up, ive looked at a couple of the eddy intakes but none mentioned a special dizzy.

There is definitely a specific dizzy for a victor jr. it and the super victor are much taller than a torker or rpm intake. you need to sump your tank dont skimp on this. with a big inch stroker you will run the rick of leaning out if you try to use stock pick ups. not to mention running at least a -10 line to your pump and -8 to the carb. your useage of a stock hood totally depends on your choice of intake and air cleaner. thats up to you. Dont just guess on the carb....call Pro Systems and give them your engine specs and let them tell you what you need. one they will send you a quote for your carb with the basic CFM etc. and you can decide then. They are WAYYYY cheaper than any off the shelf carb and it will be tuned to your specific engine. Keep asking questions here before you make any decisions
