I've been doing some digging around here for info relating to engine swaps and rebuilds. Unfortunately, to someone new jumping in the game there's not a comprehensive place to go to get info on parts.
Some background: Putting this car into a carb'd Fox Body thats currently got a 302 H.O. engine. It races in what is basically an endurance claims race, so the motor can't appear too hot. lumpy ass cams (while awesome) simply won't fly. Same goes for shiney chromey anything, so i'll be trying to junkyard/craigslist/ebay whatever parts I can get.
Most users come here with power goals in mind, and people steer them towards a setup that will safely get them there. My goals are different in that i'm not looking for a specific hp number, just a good balanced setup that makes use of the full potential of a 351W.
What I've got:
1969 351 that I just bought used. previous owner said "it needs a rebuild". motor appears to turn over well enough, so i'm looking for a master rebuild kit (gaskets, seals, pistons, rings).
1. Anybody have recommendations on brands/suppliers?(PM me if this is inappropriate here)
2. I'm also looking into heads (apparently the stockers are trash). What's out there in terms of budget builds? Are GT40's a good match?
3. The current carb on the 302 is a holley 4180. is this enough carb for this engine? or should I be shooting for more CFM?
4. I've got 1.72 rocker arms on the 302, will those swap over? Should I swap them over?
thanks for any insight y'all might have. Hopefully we can get a decent conversation going that will prove helpful not only to me, but other would-be 351 owners!
