i would just build it from scratch. Find a 1994 or newer roller block (one out of a F-150 is a good bet) Order yourself a nice rotating assembly (408 ), some nice AFR heads, air gap intake, nice big Holley carb and you will have one bad engine!
Make sure you bring it to a reputable machine shop and you will be all set!

I ordered my short-block from M&R engines, ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT stuff. I got it cheaper than I could build the shortblock, and I already had a a block. Cost me $2600 shipped to my door with an Eagle forged crank, eagle forged H-beam rods and Probe 22cc Forged Pistons, and the girdle on it. I would HIGHLY recommend them. I work at a shop, we do a fair bit of performance stuff, so word gets around, our local performance engine builder actually stopped buy to see the piece I got and he was extremely impressed buy their craftsmanship, and the price.
Oh, mine was a 408w short-block, so that's why it was a little pricey.
