Default 351 oil pan

building a 400-430hp 351w carb converted from a 302 1989 lx
just wondering wether i need/should use a high volume oil pump and suitable pan?
im on somewhat of a budget if i can save money in places i will

I would put in a high volume standard pressure pump and a Canton or Moroso rear sump pan. Make sure you get a pan designed to fit a 351 in a fox body.

Auburn locker rearend, Moser axles, Lakewood traction bars, Competition Engineering adjustable shocks.
4 point cage.

I agree, extra volume and extra oil capacity is a very good thing. The extra oil volume can help with street driving and will extend valve spring life too. Oil cools the valve springs and the extra volume pump will get it there at lower street engine speeds. Extra capacity also helps allow the oil to run cooler while giving you a reserve of oil for the high volume oil pump's displacement.

Do not forget to add and ARP heavy duty Oil pump shaft as well. Stock one is quite weak.

Yes the heavy duty oil pump shaft is a must do upgrade. I have seen standard oil shafts twist in half!
