Question 1971 351w block vs 1994 351w block??

I know if I am looking for 700+ hp then no questions asked I would go with a Dart block. However I am wanting stroker 408 with 525-575 hp with a prosystem 780cfm carb, AFR heads and so on. I have most of the parts ready waiting for a block. Should I go with the "71 block beefier 2 bolt and convert to 4 bolt or should I go with a "94 block? 71 is what I'm thinking cause I know its a stronger block. The HP ratings above will be all motor then I will have a 150 shot of NOS for the little extra ump putting the ratings around 650 hp when all said and done. In advance thanks for the help..........

I'm running a 408 w/ victor jr's and all that jazz, makes roughly the power you're looking at, I'm using the roller block with no troubles as of yet. If I were to go with nitrous, I'd get a better block, nitrous is a killer on anything, much harder on it than just making that power N/A.

Good point Liquid_02. N/A I knew either would be fine but the bottle was my main concern. Do you have any other blocks you would recommend for this. As for the Dart blocks, if I spend 2800 for that then this project could be a little much for a street/strip car (meaning HP).

No I couldn't recommend a block to withstand that :\ you're probably better off going as old as you can find though, I doubt even them would much like the nitrous though, so if you want to stick with a stock casting, in your case, the older the better

I think either block would be okay without the bottle but I would (and did) choose a roller block.
I am running mine all motor this time. I had a 175 shot on the 351 before I pulled it to stroke it. I was pretty shocked at the bearing wear with very few miles on the engine.

87notch408 Thanks for the info. This calls for some major research. I may end up leaving the bottle off. If I decide differently then I may end up with just a 50 shot for the hole and getting more out of the motor like planed before. Mid 10's is my goal and can be done N/A but it will call for some good R/T and not so cheap parts.

any 351W block should go 700HP if the tune is right and it is built right. Some of the guys over at Turbo Forums are pushing the 1000 HP mark on stock W blocks. I got 2 guys I run around with one runs 9.20 150+ stock block 408 in a stang and the other made 800+ hp on his stock block but he took it apart to check it out one winter and was getting main cap walk so he moved up to a dart block his is a 383 with a 88MM turbo on it. Now it makes over 1000HP on the dart.

From personal research and experience i don't think you will have any problems with any year windsor block in less you have 1500 hp lol i would leave out the nos that **** is a killer in less you like **** breaking and spending money. good luck tho keep us posted =)

you can run mid 10's NA so there is no need for the nitrous. find any block you can get your hands on and build it
