Both ways will work for Hydraulic Roller. The reduced base circle cams suck and the link bar rollers are expensive. You could go with a tight lash solid roller.

Okay so I've narrowed it down to a 393 or a 408. I'm pretty sure the kits for both of those are the same price are they not? I'm also going to go with a custom cam. The only reason I would need to tap that lifter valley when I'm converting it to a roller motor is to use the spider/dogbone set up and I'm just going to use linkbar lifters. Or before I get this down to the machine shop I find a good deal on a 94+ motor and I won't have to worry about it. Next question, who makes a good forged stroker kit and what size of pistons would I want to use on this motor if I'm wanting to use 91 octane and not have to retard my base timing too much. I'm wanting to go with some AFR heads, not sure which ones yet or wich cc combustion chamber I want to run.

if you are gonna run a big stroker like that.. I'd say grab a set of 225 afr's

www.fordstrokers.com also sells DIY stroker kits. comes with everything you need minus the machining

I'm assuming that I want to go with the Pro kit and not just a street fighter kit right?

92lxhatch for your goals i would get any block you could fine and for simplicity i would find a f4 block aka a roller block. it will more than hold the power your are shooting for and then some. good luck

also go ahead and get the most cubes you can and get the 408. also check into TEA for a set of some good cylinder heads to feed those cubes

I recall some discussion on a 393 potentially being more expensive to balance but my memory is not the greatest. I also would say you should not worry about 500 rwhp in any 351W block, they are a lot stronger then the roller 5.0 blocks. I would not worry about 600 either...408 with highports and a good custom cam and hold on.

Even with this 89 block I shouldn't have much to worry about with around or under 500 hp?

HP is not the main concern of breaking a block,it is detonation. You can make as much power as you like if rpms are reletivly low and it is tuned properly, but as soon as you start detonating it, it will in turn detonate. The engine I have in my car is a 393,Canfields,93 octane, carburated made 470 hp and 440 tq at the tire N/A and has run as quick as 9.80 on 150 hp Nitrous oxide system with drag radials.I have also done the same with a 69 302 block and crank ,but takes more work and rpm to do it. Just be safe in your timing numbers and make sure you take care of the details you should have no problems.

Awesome, I was feeling kind of nervous about this block at first but I'm feeling a lot better now. Thanks guys!
