Default Which 351 Block should I buy

Alright guys I'm trouble on deciding what type of block I want to buy.

I currently can pick up a block out of a van that had 14k miles on it for 300 bucks ... pretty good deal if you ask me considering the block is squeaky clean. Or to pick up a Dart or Man o War block for what is obviously alot more.

The problem is I want to build a car up to push 850 or so horses by doing whatever I have to do in order to reach that goal. Now I know that the Dart or War block won't crack at that power, but I'm afraid the stock blocks will under some heavy loads. What do you guys think?

Lets start with some basics here... What are your end goals with this car?
850hp is ALOT. Can you even handle a car with that much HP? Have you ever driven anything that fast before?

Give us some background on yourself and we can help you make a better informed decision.

A stock block will not last long at those power levels. It will rattle the main caps and possibly crack the block. If you are going to start at that power level, just buy the aftermarket block, it will cost more up front, throwing eveything on the ground later to save money now, is a waste of money.

Exactly what I was looking for, wasn't sure at what levels that the block would crack. I tried to google it and got about 300 different answers some saying 600 others saying 1000.

OO and Adder. I want to start the build at around 600 and slowly make my way up to the 850 levels with some boost. I would really love to make it to the King of the Street contest some day but it's just a dream. The only thing that I wouldn't have is the cold A/C to blast in your face. I've driven some higher horse cars ... deff. not in the 800 levels so that's why I want to start a little on the low side first. Yet I also want to get it right the first time.

a stock block even when lifter valley and main braced at 800+hp the cylinder walls will start to distort most aftermarket blocks have a siamese bore eliminating the water jackets in between the cylinders therefore making a stronger block
