Default 358W Compression

Hello all,

I am looking at purchasing a 89 notch that has a 1971 358W carb motor. The motor has 10.8-1 compression and I have a question about boost. I have read that the compression the motor now has is to much for any decent boost, so I was wondering what mods could be done, if any, to allow me to run a turbo/supercharger?

I wasn't sure which section to put this in but since I thought this was more of a 358 build I asked herre.

I can try and answer any questions about the motor that you may have.

You'll need to replace the pistons to get the static compression down around 8-8.5:1.

Thx .boB,

The motor has a .600 lift cam, will I need to have that reworked or just get a new one? I was also wondering if the block would need to be reworked any or could I get the pistons to match the block?

Thx,
Poppa

Cam choice is a little differant for FI than for NA. Depending on what the specs are, it migh (or might not) work just fine.

Geting the pistons to match the migh be possible. What you'll need to do is remove the piston and mic the bores. If hey're still round and within specs, you can simply replace the pisons. If they've worn out of round, or are bigger than spec, you'll have to bore the block.
