gt-40 on 351W ?

ok hold on... maybe im still tired, just woke up but whats being told to me is an explorer lower would mate to a GT40 tubular upper, and my 351W? and the cobra lower also applies the same? but arn't those meant for 302? now about the lightening why is it designed for the 351 lightening yet will sufficate my motor? even porting any part of the intake?

yes the explorer will mate to the GT40 upper and so will the Cobra. NO the GT40 lower or the Cobra or the Explorer LOWER will not fit the 351W the 351W is wider. But Yes the Lightning lower or the 351 GT40 what ever people want to call it will work for you. What it all comes down to is you need a Lightning truck lower intake to match up to the gt40 tubular upper.

son of a bitch!? now that i know i have not seen come and go (lightening gt40) so i might end up using another this is a wrench in the plans. thanks people good info

NO.
The Explorer had a 302.
A 302/5.0 intake will not fit a 351w block!

The tubular upper would bolt to the Explorer lower, but that lower will not fit the 351w block.

Again, the Cobra had a 302/5.0...
It won't fit the 351w.

The lightning intake is wider than any of the 302 intakes. This has nothing to do with porting or airflow!
The WIDTH of the 351w is greater than the width of the 302.
The lower intakes are not interchangeable.

HOWEVER,
The gt40 upper intakes can all be bolted to any of the lower intakes.
For example...
Lightning lower will bolt to an explorer upper
Lightning lower will bolt to a cobra upper.


With that said though...
All the gt40 uppers were designed for the airflow needs of a 302, and will limit the power on a 351w.
GT40 parts just aren't the best choice for a 351w....

Be ready to spend some money for that 351w GT40. I got lucky and bought one on corral for $300 bucks, but changed my mind and sold if for $425. People (like I did) sell these things like gold cuz they are hard to find.

And save some more $$ and upgrade those 185's to atleast 205's....and this is what I remember from the guys when I was building my 351w "302 parts, make 302 power".

It took me 2 years to find my lower intake for my Windsor the explorer upper flows better then the gt40 upper, At higher rpm anyway. Lucky for me i now have a few lighting lowers.. they are not cheap you better off going to a victor 5.8 setup.

i saw complete 5.8 uppers and lowers got for the same as most after market intakes. its about what you want
